Synopsis Funeral Oration on the Death of Hon. Daniel Webster by : Amasa McCoy

Excerpt from Funeral Oration on the Death of Hon. Daniel Webster: Delivered at a Commemoration in the Presbyterian Church, Ballston Spa, N. Y., Monday Evening, November 8, 1852 The first pamphlet edition of this Oration was printed from the newspaper report to the order, and at the expense, of Hon. Samuel lawrence, of Boston; one of the most devoted personal friends and admirers of the great deceased. The whole edition was circulated in Boston and elsewhere, among those to whom the blow, as in the case of Mr. Lawrence, came nearest and heaviest. This would have spoke well for this tribute in honor of Mr. Webster, had there been no other in print. But it makes it much more emphatic and pointed, when we recall the fact that very many similar efforts were already accessible in pamphlet form. And from a letter, written on the birth-day of Mr. Webster, 1856, we gather that lapse of time hau only confirmed Mr. Lawrence's first opinion: I fully agree with Mr. Choate in his estimate of Mr. Mccoy's Oration. It is the best I have seen, always excepting his own at Hanover, last summer. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Synopsis Daniel Webster by : Harold D. Moser

Daniel Webster captured the hearts and imagination of the American people of the first half of the nineteenth century. This bibliography on Webster brings together for the first time a comprehensive guide to the vast amount of literature written by and about this extraordinary man who dwarfed most of his contemporaries. This bibliography also provides references to materials on slavery, the tariff, banking, Indian affairs, legal and constitutional development, international affairs, western expansion, and economic and political developments in general. This bibliography is divided into fifteen sections and covers every aspect of Webster's distinguished career. Sections I and II deal primarily with Webster's writings and with those of his contemporaries. Sections III through X cover the literature dealing with his family background; childhood and education, his long service in the United States House of Representatives and in the Senate, his two stints as secretary of state, and his career in law. Section X provides guidance in locating materials relating to his associates. Finally, Sections XI through XV provide coverage of his personal life, his death, historiographical materials, and iconography.
