Synopsis A Little Crazy by : David Magee

From the father who won over critics and readers with Dear William, a memoir about his late son, comes David Magee’s own story of recovery from addiction—all while battling ADHD, depression, anxiety, as well as grief and a costly midlife crisis. A Little Crazy is a powerful call to action to embrace differences and create a life unbound by stigma and stereotypes, leading to redeeming purpose and joy. Adopted into a family that never quite fit, David Magee battled loneliness and a lack of self-esteem as a teen. These feelings followed and paralyzed him into adulthood until a trusted voice within revealed an unusual—if not a little bit crazy—path forward. Despite difficulties, he followed that path relentlessly, learning to better manage his mental-health adversities and making them his most vital assets. Follow David’s story as he turns his life around, saving his marriage and career, and becomes a trusted voice in breaking mental health and substance misuse stigma among students and parents nationally, all while leading the way in creating a university institute focused on finding solutions to student and family well-being. A trusted voice in the mental health and substance misuse space, known from his work advocating for student and family well-being nationally, David’s inspiring journey teaches readers: The power of believing in something bigger The importance of trusting and following instinct The reality that we can’t do it alone How speaking our truth frees us and helps others In sharing his inspiring journey, David teaches readers the importance of trusting your instincts, speaking your truth, and understanding the reality that no one can succeed alone.

Synopsis Doubters and Dreamers by : Janice Gould

Doubters and Dreamers opens with a question from a young girl faced with the spectacle of Indian effigies lynched and burned “in jest” before UC Berkeley’s annual Big Game against Stanford: “What’s a debacle, Mom?” This innocent but telling question marks the girl’s entrée into the complicated knowledge of her heritage as a mixed-blood Native American of Koyangk’auwi (Concow) Maidu descent. The girl is a young Janice Gould, and the poems and narrations that follow constitute a remarkable work of sustained and courageous self-revelation, retracing the precarious emotional terrain of an adolescence shaped by a mother’s tough love and a growing consciousness of an ancestral and familial past. In the first half of the book, “Tribal History,” Gould ingeniously repurposes the sonnet form to preserve the stories of her mother and aunt, who grew up when “muleback was the customary mode / of transport” and the “spirit world was present”—stories of “old ways” and places claimed in memory but lost in time. Elsewhere, she remembers her mother’s “ferocious, upright anger” and her unexpected tenderness (“Like a miracle, I was still her child”), culminating in the profound expression of loss that is the poem “Our Mother’s Death.” In the second half of the book, “It Was Raining,” Gould tells of the years of lonely self-making and “unfulfilled dreams” as she comes to terms with what she has been told are her “crazy longings” as a lesbian: “It’s been hammered into me / that I’ll be spurned / by a ‘real woman,’ / the only kind I like.” The writing here commemorates old loves and relationships in language that mingles hope and despair, doubt and devotion, veering at times into dreamlike moments of consciousness. One poem and vignette at a time, Doubters and Dreamers explores what it means to be a mixed-blood Native American who grew up urban, lesbian, and middle class in the West.

Synopsis The Book of Wisdom by : Osho

Religion is not a science.... Religion is not a science in the sense physics, mathematics and chemistry are sciences. But still it is a science because it is the ultimate knowing: the word science means knowing. And if religion is not a science, what else can be? It is the highest knowing, it is the purest knowing. Ordinary science is knowledge, not knowing: religion is knowing itself. Ordinary science is object-oriented -- it knows something, hence it is knowledge. Religion is not objectoriented; it has no object, it knows nothing. Knowing knows itself, as if the mirror is reflecting itself. It is utterly pure of all content. Hence religion is not knowledge but knowing.

Synopsis The Bloomsbury Research Handbook of Vedanta by : Ayon Maharaj

This handbook brings together a distinguished team of scholars from philosophy, theology, and religious studies to provide the first in-depth discussion of Vedanta and the many different systems of thought that make up this tradition of Indian philosophy. Emphasizing the historical development of Vedantic thought, it includes chapters on numerous classical Vedantic philosophies as well as the modern Vedantic views of Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Aurobindo, and Romain Rolland. The volume offers careful hermeneutic analyses of how Vedantic texts have been interpreted, and it addresses key issues and debates in Vedanta, including religious diversity, the nature of God, and the possibility of embodied liberation. Venturing into cross-philosophical and cross-cultural territory, it also brings Vedanta into dialogue with Saiva Nondualism as well as contemporary Western analytic philosophy. Highlighting current scholarly controversies and charting new paths of inquiry, this is an indispensable research guide for anyone interested in the past, present, and future of Vedanta and Indian philosophy.
