Synopsis Friends and Other Liars by : Kaela Coble
Sometimes the secrets we keep are more dangerous than the ones we reveal... To all my old friends: So here you all are. Nice to see you can show up for a person once he's dead. When Ruby St. James returns to her hometown, it is to the grave of her old friend Danny, a member of a group that was, ten years ago, Ruby's whole world. The crew made a pact back then: stay together, stay loyal, and stay honest. But that was before all of the lies. Because even friends keep secrets. They just don't stay secret for long. Now Danny has left behind a letter for each of them, issuing one final ultimatum: share your darkest betrayal to the group, or risk it coming out in a trap he has created. When past mistakes resurface, the lines of friendship blurb, and four old friends are left trying to understand what it means to lie to the ones you love best.

Synopsis American Slavery As It Was - The Background Of Twelve Years A Slave by : Theodore Dwight Weld
With the recent success of the movie and book "Twelve Years A Slave" in mind, this title, as the name imports, gives a true picture of the state of slavery in the United States in the first half of the 19th century. It had an important bearing on the great controversy upon this subject at the time it was published. The evidence which it contains is minutely circumstantial. A considerable portion of the book consists of the narratives of persons who have resided at the south, and witnessed the treatment of the slaves on the plantation with which they were conversant. With very few exceptions the name of the witness is given, and in the cases in which circumstances make it unsafe that he should be known, his character for integrity is vouched for by some responsible person. In some instances also, but those very few, the witness relates what was told him by persons on whose veracity he could rely. But the great mass of the evidence is original and from known and named witnesses. Please be advised that this book contains very explicit and detailed narratives that tell of torture, pain and cruelty.

Synopsis Playing the Lying Game by : Gini Graham Scott JD, Ph.D
Whether it's in business or politics, between friends, inside a family, or within intimate relationships, lies abound. This book examines who lies and why, identifies six types of lies and liars, and suggests how to protect yourself from manipulation. Everyone lies, perhaps to protect the feelings of another, perhaps to secure a deal that will, in the end, benefit all parties. But where is the line between a "good lie" and a harmful prevarication—and how do we recognize and protect ourselves from the latter? In Playing the Lying Game: Detecting and Dealing with Lies and Liars, from Occasional Fibbers to Frequent Fabricators, accomplished author Gini Graham Scott shares psychological insights into lying that will help answer such questions—and many more. Scott examines every facet of lying, including its history, cultural connections, and motivations. She identifies six types of lies and liars and explains how to detect each type, whether one is confronted with the occasional fibber or a sociopathic, compulsive liar. The book covers lies told in business and politics, lies among friends, lies between dates, married couples, and family members, as well as lies we tell our ourselves. Finally, Scott offers a Lie-Q Test that will help us see how savvy we are—or are not—in detecting fibs, mistruths, and downright deceptions.

Synopsis Lying, Cheating, Bullying and Narcissism by : George G. Bear
This vibrant book examines individual and societal factors contributing to the rise of lying, cheating, bullying, and narcissism, with emphasis on the influence of Trumpism and the valuing of “getting things done” over the importance of self-discipline and issues of morality. George Bear explores individual and environmental factors that influence the development of self-discipline. He examines reasons for the growing prevalence of lying, cheating, bullying, and narcissism and their underlying factors, and the role of parenting and peer relationships in their development. The volume highlights the critical roles that moral reasoning, moral emotions, and mechanisms of moral disengagement play in dishonest and harmful behavior. Lying, Cheating, Bullying, and Narcissism is for students and scholars of child development, parenting, psychopathology, and criminology; professionals in psychology, mental health, and education; as well as others interested in the prevalence and roots of lying, cheating, bullying, and narcissism in America.
