Synopsis Four Dogs and Their Tales by : Marcella Bursey Brooks
Kissy and Kawdje are Tibetan Spaniels adopted into the same household. Kissy is an affectionate, confident, aggressive extrovert. Kawdje is cautious and reserved. Topaz is a gentle German Shorthaired Pointer who lives in love and harmony with the animals that, according to her breed, she is supposed to hunt and chase. Michael Archangelo is a mixed breed street dog from Mexico who had never known love and was fearful of people until he takes a leap of faith by deciding to trust an American woman who befriends him. It is the sport of Dog Agility that brings the dogs and their families together and the story is built around training for and competing in agility events. Becoming winning teams at the World Dog Agility Games held annually in Arizona and earning placements on The Top Ten list that would make them eligible to represent Team USA at the International Dog Agility Championships is put on the agenda. Motherhood alters everyone's plans because of an unplanned mating. A wedding takes place between two of the dogs' family members. Of course the dogs take part in the ceremony. A strange crop circle experience involving the dogs and their families raises profound questions and controversial thoughts among the families about the distinction that humans make between themselves and animals. Love for these four dogs inspires their families to try to institute worldwide pet-friendly air travel conditions. Can they succeed? The dogs act, think and feel in ways that mirror human behavior as they cope with the ups and downs and the personal and professional dilemmas of daily life.

Synopsis Four-Legged Miracles by : Brad Steiger
Heartwarming true stories of lost dogs finding the way back home, relying entirely on amazing canine intelligence and instincts Four-Legged Miracles is a collection of wondrous lost-and-found canine sagas—actual Lassie, Come Home tales—that highlight dogs' remarkable abilities to return home despite almost unbelievable odds. Brad and Sherry Steiger have collected dramatic, carefully documented true-life anecdotes that showcase canines' amazing intelligence, courage, and sometimes seemingly supernatural powers. Often, there are no sensible explanations for how the dogs overcome obstacles like natural disasters and fierce wilderness areas, predators, grievous injuries, and more to find their human families. These fascinating reunion stories include: --Mason, the white terrier who crawled home on two broken legs to what remained of his family's tornado-ravaged house --Buca, who sat on a hill over Utah's Rte. I-15 for two months waiting for the car he knew would bring him home --Eddie, the beagle, who walked 450 miles over four months to reunite with disabled four-year-old Jimmy, inspiring the boy to work harder on his own recovery. Four-Legged Miracles will tug on readers' heartstrings, but it will also discuss common reasons dogs disappear, how to get a missing dog back faster, the dog-human bond, and the science behind some of the amazing journeys these dogs endure. Chock-full of happy endings, Four-Legged Miracles lends insight into dogs' hearts and minds, and is a treat for any animal lover.

Synopsis A Dog Year by : Jon Katz
“Change loves me, defines and stalks me like a laser-guided smart bomb. It comes at me in all forms, suddenly and with enormous impact, from making shifts in work to having and raising a kid to buying a cabin on a distant mountaintop. Sometimes, change comes on four legs.” In his popular and widely praised Running to the Mountain, Jon Katz wrote of the strength and support he found in the massive forms of his two yellow Labrador retrievers, Julius and Stanley. When the Labs were six and seven, a breeder who’d read his book contacted Katz to say she had a dog that was meant for him—a two-year-old border collie named Devon, well bred but high-strung and homeless. Katz already had a full canine complement, but instinct overruled reason, and soon thereafter he brought Devon home. A Dog Year: Twelve Months, Four Dogs, and Me is the story of how Devon and Jon—and Julius and Stanley—came to terms with each other. It shows how a man discovered a lot about himself through one dog (and then another) whose temperament seemed as different from his own as day is from night. It is a story of trust and understanding, of life and death, of continuity and change. It is by turns insightful, hilarious, and deeply moving. BONUS: This edition contains an excerpt from Jon Katz's Going Home.

Synopsis Dancing Dogs by : Jon Katz
No one brings to life the remarkable bond between humans and their dogs like New York Times bestselling author Jon Katz. He has warmed our spirits with enchanting tales and keen observations of his animal menagerie—the dogs, sheep, chickens, and other residents of Bedlam Farm. Now, Katz is back with what he does best in his first collection of short stories, Dancing Dogs. With his signature insight and gift for storytelling, Katz shares sixteen stories about one of life’s most unique relationships: In the title story, a housekeeper loses her job, but discovers her four-legged “children” have some toe-tapping talents that just may get the whole family back on its feet. In “Puppy Commando,” a shy grade-school outcast forges an instant connection with a beagle puppy she meets at a shelter—and risks everything to keep him. “Gracie’s Last Walk” features a woman who must find a way to say goodbye to her beloved golden retriever—but ends up saying hello to someone unexpected. “The Dog Who Kept Men Away” shows that not all humans pass the “sniff” test when it comes to canines, who possess an excellent judge of character. And in “Guardian Angel,” a widower going through a painful transition finds the greatest comfort in the unlikeliest of sources—a funny-looking pug named Gus. Whether sitting, staying, and rolling over, in the barnyard, shelters, or home, sweet, home, the creatures in Dancing Dogs are genuinely inspiring and utterly memorable. Praise for Dancing Dogs “Funny, keenly observed short stories illuminating the bond between man and his best friend.”—People “Jon Katz writes with passion and humor about the connections between animals and humans. . . . Animal lovers are sure to want to add this book to their collection.”—Examiner.com “Katz’s stories, sometimes warm and sometimes funny, are smooth, light reads that are easy to pick up and enjoy and will appeal to dog lovers everywhere.”—Booklist “Insightful, moving . . . a tissue-box-worthy collection of animal tales.”—Kirkus Reviews “[A] heartwarming book.”—The Dallas Morning News

Synopsis Dog Tales by :
Like their human friends, dogs come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. Some are smart, like Ma-Buku, a five-pound Chihuahua who squeaks her toy in perfect time with her owners drums. Some refuse to adhere to dog clichés, like four-year-old Elmer, who loves to chase a tennis ball but refuses to pick it up and bring it back, or six-year-old Barnabas, who can’t be bothered to chase cats but will bark vehemently at the wind. There are pretty dogs, heroic dogs, and dogs that are loyal, intuitive, or just plain strange, like Bocci, who goes into a trance when his owner’s pager goes off, and can only be "reset" by being picked up and put back down again. All make an appearance in this delightful collection of stories. Submitted by hundreds of real dog owners, these true tales of mutual love and loyalty affirm that there’s no better friend than a dog.
