Synopsis Forgotten Times and Spaces by : Martin Novák

Kniha přináší přes čtyřicet příspěvků mezinárodního kolektivu autorů a jejím záměrem je především shromáždit a popsat střípky předchozích, zapomenutých způsobů života. Lidský život a evoluce překlenuje různé historické epochy i místa, osud člověka se však zdá neúprosný, protože svědkové, vzpomínky i hmatatelné důkazy lidské existence se nevyhnutelně vytrácejí. Kniha současně odráží výsledky široké, mezinárodní spolupráce Jiřího A. Svobody, významného vědce, s autory příspěvků, včetně těch, kteří se jeho dílem inspirují.

An experimental starship. An unprepared pilot. An unexpected crew. A fight for the fate of the future. Captain Nicholas Shepherd is a test pilot for Grimmel Corporation's latest experimental starship, Foresight. As a development platform for desperately needed advanced technology, a successful run of the ship's systems is vital to enable humankind's exodus from an alien-occupied Earth. After Foresight suffers a malfunction during its final scheduled flight, the lost opportunity provides the enemy the opening they need for one last attack. With his family caught in the crossfire, Nicholas realizes that the flawed starship is their best chance to escape. But it isn't long before what started as a desperate evacuation turns into something more. Much more. Joined by an unintended crew of survivors, Nicholas is about to embark on an impossible mission that will take them far beyond the outer reaches of known space. If he fails, the future of humankind will not only be lost... It will be completely erased.

Synopsis The Forgotten Self by : Asa E. Lennon

The Forgotten Self is a product of a lifetime study of meditation, eastern philosophy and spiritual seeking. The author, a martial arts teacher and practitioner, found a need among his fellow students for a how to manual on the subject of meditation. This instructional paper became a chapter in this three-part book. The Forgotten Self deals with such topics as meditation, world religions, metaphysics and spirituality as it relates to todays world. It is a guideline for the spiritual life-style as well as an instructional manual for unlocking those lost or unknown abilities latent in mankind as a species. Insightful and rewarding, The Forgotten Self promises to leave the reader with a better understanding of reality, the universe and his part in it. Divided into three separate sections, this book leads the reader through a process of opening possibilities, providing answers for them and expanding awareness through practical experiments. The first part is The Essence of Reality. Here the author discusses such topics as modern society, individual and mass reality, and forgotten ancient wisdom. Asa Lennon believes there are abilities of mankind that have, in the whir of modern society, been anciently forgotten. He hopes to show the reader that man has reached the point in history where he teeters between existence and extinction between civilization and chaos. It is the distancing of man from spirit that is at the heart of this problem. By returning to spirit, we can reclaim our heritage as keepers of the Earth and her treasures. The second part is The Mystic Way the Forgotten Path. Here Lennon discusses the solutions to problems that plague mankind individually and en masse. This part outlines specific ways to enhance your life, society and the universe as products of the conscious awareness of the individual. Part three will open the readers awareness through the introduction of various spiritual and metaphysical concepts. Entitled Remembering Yourself, it not only provides mind-challenging possibilities, but actually describes experimental opportunities in the chapter 20 The Human Laboratory. Asa Lennon promises the Forgotten Self will embark the reader on a journey of increased awareness, spirituality and wonder as the forgotten self once again becomes known.

Synopsis Andrew Lau and Alan Mak's Infernal Affairs - The Trilogy by : Gina Marchetti

Infernal Affairs has received journalistic, popular and corporate notice but little vigorous critical attention. In this book, Gina Marchetti explores the way this example of Hong Kong's cinematic eclecticism has crossed borders as a story, a commercial product and a work of art; and has had an undeniable impact on current Hong Kong cinema. Moreover, she uses this trilogy to highlight the way Hong Kong cinema continues to be inextricably intertwined with global film culture and the transnational movie market. Infernal Affairs served as the source for the Academy Award-winning film The Departed (2006). The Martin Scorsese-directed film won Oscars for best motion picture, director, adapted screenplay and film editing. This is the first time that an American film based on a Hong Kong production swept the Academy Awards by winning four top prizes.

Synopsis Small Forgotten Places in the Hearth of Cities by : Antonio Laurìa

This book is the result of a research project designed and carried out at the Department of Architecture, University of Florence. This book discusses urban public spaces and, more specifically, run-down, inactive micro-spaces that are barely used due to their location, dimensions, morphology or semantic characteristics. In literature, these spaces are often defined as “residual urban spaces.” A large abandoned industrial area on the outskirts of a town or a small interstitial space in a historical centre can be residual. With respect to such a broad subject matter, the book seeks to radically limit the field, concentrating on public residual spaces found in the oldest parts of cities. The book reflects on this theme and introduces a method for reading and assessment of the residuality of public spaces in historical contexts (Residuality Assessment Process) which was tested in the historical centre of Florence. It is the authors’ view that residual spaces, above all if designed according to a system logic, can go from being problems to potential activators of urban and social regeneration processes, offering a useful contribution to improve city life.
