Synopsis For My Family by : Mickey Bahr
For My Family is a coming-of-age novel taken from the first person stream-of-conscience view of a young adult. The protagonist traces the current path of life in congruence with the past. After the character captures a beast, life slowly begins to twist into a psychological tragedy that can only be reversed by one's own ability to overcome.

Synopsis Cooking for My Family by : Loretta Lawrence
"Dinner was the time we all sat together and enjoyed Mom's cooking, but it was also the place we discussed the day, argued, laughed and basically caught up with each other. One thing Mom and Dad taught us was that "no one" ate before the other. We always waited for each other and we all waited for Dad to sit down to start. What I remember the most was how good everything tasted. With a limited amount of money Mom created an abundance of easy, ethnic, earthy and Italian dishes. I have written this book for her and it is my hope that you will enjoy cooking her recipes as much as she loved Cooking For Her Family."

Synopsis They Are All My Family by : John Riordan
In the chaotic final days of the Vietnam War in April 1975, as Americans fled and their Vietnamese allies and employees prepared for the worst, John Riordan, a young banker, the assistant manager of Citibank's Saigon branch succeeded in rescuing 106 Vietnamese. They were his 33 Vietnamese staff members and their families. Unable to secure exit papers for the employees, Citibank ordered Riordan to leave the country alone. Safe in Hong Kong, Riordan could not imagine leaving behind his employees and defied instructions from his superiors not to return to Saigon. But once he did make it back on the last commercial flight, his actions were daring and ingenious. In They Are All My Family, Riordan recounts in a vivid narrative how the escape was organized and carried out. He assembled all 106 of the Vietnamese into his villa and a neighboring one telling them to keep their locations secret. A CIA contact told him that only dependents of Americans were allowed to escape on U.S. military cargo planes. Riordan repeatedly went to the processing area and claimed groups of the Vietnamese as his relatives—his wife and children—somehow managing to get through the bureaucratic shambles. Eventually he went back and forth to the airport 15 times. Filling out papers in groups, using false documents and even witnessing a bribe, he succeeded in rescuing the group. For the last round, the group drove the bank van to the airport pretending they had bundles of money to transport. Miraculously, all these gambits worked and the Citibank group made it to Guam and the Philippines, eventually reuniting at Camp Pendleton in California. All the while, Riordan assumed he had been fired for ignoring orders but once the mission was completed, his extraordinary commitment and resourcefulness won him widespread praise from senior officials. Citibank spent over a million dollars just to resettle the Vietnamese, offering jobs to some of the staff and their spouses. Decades later, Riordan, who has stayed in touch with the Vietnamese, has located and reconnected with all of them in order to share their accounts of those frantic days and the derring-do it took to get them out to safety. John Riordan is now a farmer in Wisconsin. His story of those fateful days decades ago and their aftermath provides a compelling insight to the courage of individuals when all seemed lost. For all the tragedy of the Vietnam War, this saga is an uplifting counterpoint and a compelling piece of micro-history.

Synopsis My Family, My Self by : Latinas Unidas En Servicio Comunidades
Latinos immigrating into the United States bring with them their rich, unique cultural values and practices, with one constant being the celebration of and reliance on family. Family members find strength and support in the well defined roles and expectations passed down over many generations. This can provide a safe haven for individuals finding their way in the fast paced, competitive American culture where, in addition to the language barriers, different attitudes toward personal issues like dating and relationships, alcohol and drug use, parenting, and the role of elders can cause conflict and confusion and threaten the stability of family life. For over thirty years, the professionals at CLUES have worked with Latinos and their families to provide support and guidance in navigating the many psychological, social, and cultural challenges they face in adapting to their new environment. In this book, experts from different disciplines across this nationally recognized organization, share their practical wisdom—a combination of cultural sensitivity and knowledge and current behavioral health expertise—to produce a friendly, accessible guide to emotional health for Latinos. With a focus on family throughout, including success stories from a variety of Latino families, readers will find useful and inspiring information on: Understanding the importance of emotions, intimacy and communication in personal relationships Finding strength in cultural and family traditions as roles and expectations change Key stages of life issues such as parenting, gender identity, and aging Avoiding alcohol and drug abuse and getting help should this become a problem Contributing to family and society through work and career, education, and developing financial stability The importance of spirituality and moral values in maintaining a sense of personal and family well-being Selected key passages are bi-lingual.

Synopsis Not in My Family by : Roger Frie
Roger Frie explores what it means to discover his family's legacy of a Nazi past. Using the narrative of his grandfather as a starting point, he shows how the transfer of memory from one German generation to the next keeps the forbidding reality of the Holocaust at bay.
