Synopsis Football Rage! by : KPC Exall

Football Rage! follows in the footsteps of Football Mad! and Football Wild! and concludes the Football Satires Trilogy. Following the abysmal efforts of Team England at the last Football World Cup, a wave of protests has taken the football fraternity by surprise. Excess is no longer acceptable at a time of austerity and the fans are claiming their forgotten right to exercise some control over their favourite team. The demise of the old regime sends political tremors and plots abound at the very heart of Football governance as well as in the media circus. Change is in the air, sometimes welcome, often feared.

Synopsis Football's Better with Fans by : Antony Rickson

Football stadiums are supposed to be packed with cheering fans. It was that way for more than 100 years until the coronavirus pandemic changed all our lives. Football managed to struggle on at some levels but without crowds - just cardboard cut-outs and fake noise instead. There was even a half measure for a while with a couple of thousand spectators allowed in. A banner at Old Trafford read, 'Football is nothing without fans', but what we discovered is that it isn't nothing, it's just better with fans there. Filled with fascinating stories, anecdotes, opinions and social media comments, Football's Better with Fans explores what it means to be a supporter. It's a light-hearted and highly dippable look at the lives of loyal fans, the fun and games they've enjoyed, their songs, banter, commitment, tattoos and traditions. The book doesn't shy away from tragedies, hooliganism or racism, but mainly it's a joyful celebration of football fandom and how we all survived when we couldn't go to games.

Synopsis 11 Hearts, 11 Helmets, 1 Goal The Austin Outlaws Women's Professional Football Team by : Dennis Stostad

The Austin Outlaws is a women's professional football team. They play full-contact NFL rules and have been doing this since the year 2000. Based in Austin, Texas, they play an eight game schedule in the spring of each year. In 2003 I started shooting action photos of Outlaws games and practices. In 2011 I started a blog to showcase my photos. Along with hundreds of photos, the blog includes my insights about football and any other subjects that interest me. It is a mixture of serious and silly, fun for me to do and fun for fans to visit. My blog server suggested creating a book of my blog posts - and this is that book. It is a collection of selected blog posts taken nearly exactly as they originally appeared in the blog. I've done some editing to adapt to the book format. The book is fun and a great keepsake for Austin Outlaw players. The blog is: http: //womenwhoplayfootballplus.blogspot.com/.

Synopsis Working Class Rage by : Prof. Tex Sample

White working-class people are the canary in the mine. Poorly understood and perceived as a threat to the common good – unintelligent, self-destructive, utterly incapable of leveraging their own privilege - white working-class people have recaptured the cultural and political imagination in the wake of the 2016 presidential election. Pundits, politicos, cultural commentators, party leaders and many others are scrambling to understand what makes this demographic tick with mixed results. Scape-goated for all things racist and identified as the voting block that gave the country its most divisive leader in a generation, they are not what they seem: so much more than common xenophobes and red-hat wearing nostalgics for a lost time of white supremacy, this group begs for a richer, more nuanced portrait if they are to be loved and impacted by Christian faith and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Tex Sample, acclaimed author of White Soul and Hard Living People, is a reliable and reader-friendly guide through the current literature with keen eye on the implications of understanding this group so pastors and leaders can better communicate the Good News of Jesus and work for a more just society that values black and white lives and creates the partnerships that lead to the good life for all. This book also describes how our inability to sustain attention to the value of black lives is a traveling companion to our failure to understand or care about the pain and anger of working class whites. Calling Christians (individuals, as well as communities of faith) to a concrete version of social well-being befitting faithful life in Jesus and God’s vision of justice for the world, Tex Sample drills deeper into the realities of a group of people whose suffering and anger is denied, ignored, or misunderstood. The conclusion? Working for real-world, Gospel-centered change (spiritual, social, political, cultural) requires a field guide to the people we too often stereotype or misunderstand. They can be partners when we frame a message of hope built on a sense of vocation to life in Jesus – the good life for all.

Synopsis Violence in Southern Sport and Culture by : Eric Bain-Selbo

This book discusses violence and its connection with religion, sport and popular culture. It highlights the religious dimensions of violence and the role of violence in the religion and culture of the American South. Extending into popular culture, it then makes the case that sport—particularly American football—is a cultural phenomenon in the South with close ties with religion and violence, and that American football has come to play a central role in the civil religion of the South, fueled in part by its violent nature. The book concludes by drawing important lessons from this case study—lessons that help us to see both religion and sport in a new light.

Synopsis The Rage by : Julia Ebner

The early twenty-first century has been defined by a rise in Islamist radicalisation and a concurrent rise in far right extremism. This book explores the interaction between the 'new' far right and Islamist extremists and considers the consequences for the global terror threat. Julia Ebner argues that far right and Islamist extremist narratives - 'The West is at war with Islam' and 'Muslims are at war with the West' - complement each other perfectly, making the two extremes rhetorical allies and building a spiralling torrent of hatred - 'The Rage'. By looking at extremist movements both online and offline, she shows how far right and Islamist extremists have succeeded in penetrating each other's echo chambers as a result of their mutually useful messages. Based on first-hand interviews, this book introduces readers to the world of reciprocal radicalisation and the hotbeds of extremism that have developed - with potentially disastrous consequences - in the UK, Europe and the US.
