Synopsis Following the Animal by : Ann-Sofie Lönngren
Literary transformations from human to animal have occurred in myths, folklore, fairy tales and narratives from all over the world since ancient times, and have always provided a narrative space for depictions of power, agency, and the radical nature of change. In Following the Animal, these transformations are analysed with regards to their use in modern literature from northern-most Europe, with specific attention being paid to the insights they provide regarding the human-animal relationship, both generally in the industrialized West, and against the background of more specific circumstances in the Nordic area. In three analytic chapters, focusing respectively on Swedish author August Strindberg’s novel Tschandala (1887), Finnish author Aino Kallas’s novel The Wolf’s Bride (1928), and Danish author Karen Blixen/Isak Dinesen’s short story “The Monkey” (1934), along with discussions of a range of other authors and texts, the reader is introduced to several traditions of literary production that both connect to, and differ from, Anglophone and other literature in fascinating ways. In addition to the insights it provides concerning the uses of human-animal transformations in modern Nordic literature, and their significance in relation to “the question of the animal”, Following the Animal also offers literary scholars and students alike a series of useable and transferable strategies for approaching texts from a “more-than-anthropocentric”, human-animal studies perspective. In phrasing and employing the interpretational method of “following the animal” over the text’s surface, up metaphorical elevations, down material wormholes, and in constant dialogue with previous research, this book contributes greatly to both human-animal literary studies specifically, and to the field of literary scholarship generally, in both an international and northern-European context.

Synopsis This Is Not a Normal Animal Book by : Julie Segal-Walters
Blobfish! Blobfish blobfish blobfish! This is a silly picture book about animals and collaboration—or lack thereof. But mostly blobfish. This is a book about animals. It is? I mean, it sort of is. It does have animals in it. It’s a book about animals. I hear you, but you have to admit it’s pretty strange. This is NOT a normal animal book. You should read it. At least we can agree on that. This offbeat picture book asks hilarious questions about animals and art, who’s in charge of a picture book—the author or the illustrator—and really gets you thinking about…BLOBFISH!

Synopsis Metamorphoses of the Zoo by : Ralph R. Acampora
Metamorphoses of the Zoo marshals a unique compendium of critical interventions that envision novel modes of authentic encounter that cultivate humanity's biophilic tendencies without abusing or degrading other animals. These take the form of radical restructurings of what were formerly zoos or map out entirely new, post-zoo sites or experiences. The result is a volume that contributes to moral progress on the inter-species front and eco-psychological health for a humankind whose habitats are now mostly citified or urbanizing.

Synopsis The Draw Any Animal Book by : Robert Lambry
In the 1920s and 30s, French artist Robert Lambry (1902–1934) created a series of charming step-by-step lessons for drawing animals for a weekly children’s paper. They were later compiled into a book Les Animaux Tels Qu'ils Sont (Animals as They Are) and now, almost 100 years later, these beautiful lineworks will guide you to drawing perfection. Lambry breaks down the process of drawing realistic animals into a series of simple shapes and lines, enabling you to recreate even the most complex creatures in just a few steps. Use the no-slip, wood-free pages to copy 100 wonderful animals—including: Big creatures, like an elephant, rhino, giraffe, and hippo Small creatures, like a snail, frog, butterfly, beetle, spider, and fly All kinds of birds, like a swallow, peacock, turkey, heron, and swan Domestic animals, like a cat, dog, chicken, and cow A range of wild cats, like a tiger, lynx, lion, and panther Ocean creatures, like a whale, lobster, and seal And more! Indulge the temptation to pick up your pencil, follow these elegant examples, and learn to draw any animal the Lambry way.
