The material represents a due diligence attempt to chronicle, via a series of seemingly random and incidental episodes narrated in the first-person, the evolutionary journey of my consciousness from the edge of the wilds of Mindanao (Philippines) to the rough and tumble of the streets of Manhattan (New York City), with all the tedious yet not the least thrilling detours in-between. Random in the sense that I had to single out and focus on specific and discrete pivotal decision points which ushered in a definitely recognizable qualitative change in my perception of my unique attributes as an individual, on leaving such decision bifurcations. . . . In a broader context the three parts of the book represent three distinct non-sequential evolutionary phases of my consciousness. The Narratives represent the age of ambition, when the drive to transcend . . . reigned supreme. The Poetry I deem to represent the seemingly unquenchable deliberative age of simultaneous inspiration, enlightenment, and illusion. . . . The Essays represent the age of rational resignation, or better yet, resigned rationalization, when you give in to the impulsive reflex to explain away the developments which you know affect your physical and spiritual well-being....

Shelley famously observed long ago and far away that poetry is the language of the imagination. This authors experience with it has been that it is more the expression of the spontaneous celebration of being alive, far beyond just the joys of living. This dates as far back as 1961 when the author was the editor-in-chief of the high school magazine, The Cub Farmer. More titles were written but fell by the wayside. Thanks mostly to electronic storage with the advent of word processing technology, retrieval has mostly been facilitated. All of the titles have been posted at the online venue AllPoetry.com of which the author had been a member over the last thirty months or so. More than half of the titles were minted with the nom de plume byline Ace Lilacs. This was attendant to the venues limiting the author character string length to thirteen, truncating the full name to a rather awkward Constancio Su.

I wrote FRUITION because I was interested in what my life might have been like if things had gone differently back in my teens. At the time I was forty-something and I had a lot to think about. Death was on my mind and like many people I expect, I wished I could go back and try again, knowing even a little of what I'd learned. I employed a kind of reincarnation device - four books for four lives. Most of the story is set in the afterlives, which let me enjoy myself inventing landscapes, cities, people and wildlife. I also had fun putting in some philosophical arguments, a love story and a few sex scenes. It's a typical first novel - it's got everything.
