Synopsis Subpar Parks by : Amber Share

**A New York Times Bestseller!** Based on the wildly popular Instagram account, Subpar Parks features both the greatest hits and brand-new content, all celebrating the incredible beauty and variety of America’s national parks juxtaposed with the clueless and hilarious one-star reviews posted by visitors. Subpar Parks, both on the popular Instagram page and in this humorous, informative, and collectible book, combines two things that seem like they might not work together yet somehow harmonize perfectly: beautiful illustrations and informative, amusing text celebrating each national park paired with the one-star reviews disappointed tourists have left online. Millions of visitors each year enjoy Glacier National Park, but for one visitor, it was simply "Too cold for me!" Another saw the mind-boggling vistas of Bryce Canyon as "Too spiky!" Never mind the person who visited the thermal pools at Yellowstone National Park and left thinking, “Save yourself some money, boil some water at home.” Featuring more than 50 percent new material, the book will include more depth and insight into the most popular parks, such as Yosemite, Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, and Acadia National Parks; anecdotes and tips from rangers; and much more about author Amber Share's personal love and connection to the outdoors. Equal parts humor and love for the national parks and the great outdoors, it's the perfect gift for anyone who loves to spend time outside as well as have a good read (and laugh) once they come indoors.

Synopsis Fire Island National Seashore, New York by : United States. Congress. House. Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs. Subcommittee on National Parks

Modern society is ill. Many people sit in their work cubicle, in jobs that are stressful and unfulfilling. With a boss they don't like. With a mortgage they cannot afford. With relationships that aren't all they could be. With a work-life balance that's all work and no life. It's no wonder there's a stress and depression epidemic in the Western world. Many people have simply lost themselves. Is this you? If so, life doesn't have to be like this. You can choose to live life in a different way. Most people will say that they want more than anything to be themselves and to make a difference. This book is about how to be true to yourself in a society that more than ever pushes us to disguise who we are, so we end up pretending to be who we're not. How can I find a way to be myself? Join Mark Eyre to find your own real me, and along the way, pick up some practical strategies and approaches to help you express who you really are. It's time to join the journey of a lifetime, and in the words of George Eliot, to "be who you might have been."

Synopsis The Heart and the Island by : Chiara Mazzucchelli

In The Heart and the Island, Chiara Mazzucchelli explores the strong bond between Sicilian American writers and the island of Sicily. Self-contained yet connected to the mainland, geographically separated from yet politically united to the rest of Italy, Sicily occupies a unique position. Throughout the twentieth century, the sense of a distinct sicilianità—or Sicilianness—has manifested itself in a corpus of texts that, although subsumed under the broader context of Italian literature, have distinguished themselves as examples of an exquisitely Sicilian literary experience. Mazzucchelli argues that a parallel phenomenon—sicilianamericanità—has emerged in the United States. Focusing on the island's geography, history, and culture, she examines how many American authors of Sicilian descent derive inspiration from their ethnic milieu and lay out a recognizable set of Sicilian culture markers in their works, thereby producing a literature that is distinctly Sicilian American. Drawing on both Italian and Italian American scholarship, The Heart and the Island is the first full-length study of Sicilian American literature, and it opens a space for new interdisciplinary discussions on what it means to be Italian on both sides of the ocean.
