Synopsis Filtration in Porous Media and Industrial Application by : M.S. Espedal
This book is devoted to the presentation of some flow problems in porous media having relevant industrial applications. The main topics covered are: the manufacturing of composite materials, the espresso coffee brewing process, the filtration of liquids through diapers, various questions about flow problems in oil reservoirs and the theory of homogenization. The aim is to show that filtration problems arising in very practical industrial context exhibit interesting and highly nontrivial mathematical aspects. Thus the style of the book is mathematically rigorous, but specifically oriented towards applications, so that it is intended for both applied mathematicians and researchers in various areas of technological interest. The reader is required to have a good knowledge of the classical theory of PDE and basic functional analysis.

Synopsis Industrial and Technological Applications of Transport in Porous Materials by : J.M.P.Q. Delgado
The purpose of this book, Industrial and Technological Applications of Transport in Porous Materials, is to provide a collection of recent contributions in the field of heat and mass transfer in porous media and their industrial and technological applications. The main benefit of the book is that it discusses some of the most important topics related to transport phenomenon in engineering and their future applications. It includes a set of new technological applications in the field of heat and mass transfer phenomena in a porous medium domain, such as, drying technology, filtration, infrared thermography, energy, recycling, etc. At the same time, these topics will be going to the encounter of a variety of scientific and engineering disciplines, such as chemical, civil, agricultural, mechanical engineering, etc. The book is divided in several chapters that intend to be a resume of the current state of knowledge for benefit of professional colleagues.

Synopsis The Scientific Basis of Filtration by : K.J. Ives
K.J. Ives Professor of Public Health Engineering University College London The filtration of liquids is a process which is widely used in industry. In some cases the object of the process is to clarify the liquid, as in the filtration of beer, or sugar solutions; in other cases the object is to recover solids suspended in the liquid, for example, ores in mineral processing, or the production of pigments such as titanium dioxide. In addition to the many industrial applications of liquid filtration, a considerable investment lies in municipal applications for the filtration of drinking water, wastewater and the sludges arising from water and sewage treatment. Indeed, in terms of volume filtered, it is likely that the municipal application exceeds that of industry. The difference between clarification of the liquid and recovery of the solids is often expressed in the division of the processes into deep bed filtration and cake filtration.

Synopsis Modeling Phenomena of Flow and Transport in Porous Media by : Jacob Bear
This book presents and discusses the construction of mathematical models that describe phenomena of flow and transport in porous media as encountered in civil and environmental engineering, petroleum and agricultural engineering, as well as chemical and geothermal engineering. The phenomena of transport of extensive quantities, like mass of fluid phases, mass of chemical species dissolved in fluid phases, momentum and energy of the solid matrix and of fluid phases occupying the void space of porous medium domains are encountered in all these disciplines. The book, which can also serve as a text for courses on modeling in these disciplines, starts from first principles and focuses on the construction of well-posed mathematical models that describe all these transport phenomena.

Synopsis Solid/ Liquid Separation by : Stephen Tarleton
Solid/fluid separation is a major element in the processes performed in pharmaceutical, food, beverage, water, pulp and paper industries. Several books now exist on the more esoteric aspects of the techniques, but accounts of the fundemental principles involved are few. Written by two well-known chemical engineers, this book reviews the scientific and engineering bases for solid/fluid separation processes in an approachable style. Coverage focuses on fluid dynamics, gravity, centrifugal and membrane separations, filter cake formation, de-liquoring and washing. Complete with an extensive bibliography to allow readers to pursue topics in greater depth. - Help readers to understand how filtration processes work - Facilitate the application of knowledge to start-up and existing processes, helping readers to improve process performance - Help ensure your equipment is appropriate for its purpose and is working optimally, saving time and money
