AIICSR '97 (Artificial Intelligence and Information-Control Systems of Robots) is one of the most traditional East-West professional meetings devoted to artifical intelligence (AI) and its applications in robots. The themes of the conference are aimed at the issues of AI theory and applications. The conference is devoted to the development and philosophical reflections of AI, and presents the most important topics, such as knowledge discovery and data mining, and study of context. In addition to robots, AI has created softbots — software robots working in a complex information environment. The WWW has become the most exciting application of AI. Further important topics in this volume include formal modelling of reactive systems, development of parallel and distributed computer architectures, declarative programming, agent societies and other fields, from which theoretical results in computer vision and its applications in robotics deserve special attention.

Logic programming enjoys a privileged position. It is firmly rooted in mathematical logic, yet it is also immensely practical, as a growing number of users in universities, research institutes, and industry are realizing. Logic programming languages, specifically Prolog, have turned out to be ideal as prototyping and application development languages. This volume presents the proceedings of the Second Logic Programming Summer School, LPSS'92. The First Logic Programming Summer School, LPSS '90, addressed the theoretical foundations of logic programming. This volume focuses onthe relationship between theory and practice, and on practical applications. The introduction to the volume is by R. Kowalski, one of the pioneers in the field. The following papers are organized into sections on constraint logic programming, deductive databases and expert systems, processing of natural and formal languages, software engineering, and education.

These proceedings are devoted to communicating significant developments in all areas pertinent to Parallel Symbolic Computation.The scope includes algorithms, languages, software systems and application in any area of parallel symbolic computation, where parallelism is interpreted broadly to include concurrent, distributive, cooperative schemes, and so forth.

- Donation refusal is high in all the regions of Argentina. - The deficient operative structure is a negative reality that allows inadequate donor maintenance and organ procurement. - In more developed regions, there are a high number of organs which are not utilized. This is true for heart, liver and lungs. Small waiting lists for these organs probably reflect an inadequate economic coverage for these organ transplant activities. - There is a long waiting list for cadaveric kidney transplants, which reflect poor procurement and transplant activity. - Lack of awareness by many physicians leads to the denouncing of brain deaths. In spite of these factors, we can say that there has been a significant growth in organ procuration and transplantation in 1993, after the regionalization of the INCUCAI. Conclusions Is there a shortage of organs in Argentina? There may be. But the situation in Argentina differs from that in Europe, as we have a pool of organs which are not utilized (donation refusal, operational deficits, lack of denouncing of brain deaths). Perhaps, in the future, when we are able to make good use of all the organs submitted for transplantation, we will be able to say objectively whether the number of organs is sufficient or not. A cross-disciplinary take on the rising phenomenon of female genital cosmetic surgery, from world-leading experts, in a single volume.

This volume is based on papers presented during the ICLP '94 Workshop on Nonmonotonic Extensions of Logic Programming and on papers solicited afterwards from key researchers participating in the workshop. In total 10 carefully refereed, revised, full research papers on semantics and computational aspects of logic programs are included. Logic programs rely on a nonmonotonic operator often referred to as negation by failure or negation by default. The nonmonoticity of this operator allows to apply results from the area of nonmonotonic theories to the investigation of logic programs (and vice versa). This volume is devoted to the interdependence of nonmonotonic formalisms and logic programming.
