Synopsis Fearless Love: Anthology by : Vikram Kolmannskog

On 6 September 2018, the Indian Supreme Court delivered a very progressive verdict on LGBTQ+ rights. In celebration of the one-year anniversary, Mohini Books has created an anthology with texts focused on fearless love. The verdict shows inclusiveness in both form and content, a value that is arguably the best of both Indian culture and queer culture. Inclusiveness has also been a guiding value in the creation of this anthology. The contributors self-identify as men, women, cis, trans, gender non-conforming, gay, straight and with various other sexual and gender labels. Many are Indian or Indian-origin, but there are also contributors with Scandinavian, Pakistani, Sudanese and other national backgrounds. Texts are in the form of poetry, essay, short story, song lyrics, and letter. These are interspersed with quotes from the beautiful verdict. The anthology is available as a printed book at production cost - and digitally for free.

A vibrant picture book biography of Surya Bonaly, the figure skating champion who backflipped her way into history As a young girl in France, Surya Bonaly was constantly in motion, gifted in any sport she tried. But it was figure skating that had her heart. Surya knew she belonged on the ice. Her colorful costumes, exuberant routines, powerful jumps, and daring combinations were all expressions of her love for skating and her ambition to push the boundaries of what a figure skating champion could look like. Some people weren't sure Surya belonged on top of the podium. "Is she graceful enough?" they asked. "Does she look like a skater?" But Surya's fearless heart propelled her to always stay true to herself while pursuing her boldest dreams. Culminating in her iconic backflip performed at the 1998 Olympics, Fearless Heart is a lushly illustrated, lyrical story of self-expression and courage.

Synopsis Falling Through Love by : Akif Kichloo

“Beautiful . . . Kichloo speaks to predecessors as diverse as Seamus Heaney and (fellow doctor-poet) Rafael Campo in a series of lovely, compelling poems.” —Chaya Bhuvaneswar, author of White Dancing Elephants Falling Through Love submerges readers into Akif Kichloo’s deeply personal yet widely resonant experiences, exploring relationships in their most exposed and honest states. Written in a variety of poetic forms—free verse, rhyme, prose, and visual poetry—Falling Through Love takes the reader on a poignant journey with the writer, about charting one’s own path in life, investigating failure, family dynamics, and love. Looking at life backward and forward simultaneously, this collection brings forth new perspectives on what it means to be alive, to have made mistakes, to have fought for an identity, to have loved and lost and then loved and lost again. “Falling Through Love is a brilliant and unapologetic exploration of faith, loss, mental illness, and the many facets of love. Kichloo’s compelling storytelling will remind you of the push and pull of love.” —K.Y. Robinson, author of Submerge “Reading Falling Through Love felt like what I imagine Alice felt like falling into Wonderland—it’s beautiful (almost overwhelmingly so), evokes a remarkable variety and amount of emotions, and ultimately causes you to look inward towards yourself . . . The poems and artwork throughout Falling Through Love create an emotional journey that you can’t help but relate to.” —Juliette Sebock, Nightingale & Sparrow Literary Magazine

Synopsis The Broadview Anthology of Romantic Poetry by : Joseph Black

Intended for courses with a major focus on poetry during the Romantic period, this volume includes all the poetry selections from Volume 4 of The Broadview Anthology of British Literature, along with a number of works newly edited for this volume. The Broadview Anthology of Romantic Poetry maintains the Broadview Anthology of British Literature’s characteristic balance of canonical favorites and lesser-known gems, featuring a breadth of poetry from William Blake to Phillis Wheatley, from Ebenezer Elliott to Felicia Hemans. To give a sense of the full sweep of the Romantic period, the anthology incorporates important early figures from William Collins to Phillis Wheatley, as well as works by Victorians—such as Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Alfred, Lord Tennyson—for whom Romanticism was a formative force. “Contexts” sections provide valuable background on cultural matters such as “The Natural and the Sublime” and “The Abolition of Slavery,” while the companion website offers a wealth of additional resources and primary works. Longer works newly prepared for the bound book include Byron’s Manfred and The Giaour, Keats’s Hyperion, and substantial selections from Wordsworth’s fourteen-book Prelude; authors newly added for this volume include Hannah Cowley, Hannah More, Ann Yearsley, Robert Southey, and Thomas Moore.

Synopsis On Art and Artists: An Anthology of Diderot's Aesthetic Thought by : Denis Diderot

Chance ordained that Denis Diderot (1713-1784) was not only a philosopher, playwright and writer, but also a salonnier. In other words, an art critic. In 1759, his friend Grimm entrusted him with a project that forced him to acquire "thoughtful notions concerning painting and sculpture" and to refine "art terms, so familiar in his words yet so vague in his mind". Diderot wrote artistic reviews of exhibitions – Salons – that were organized bi-annually at the Louvre by the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture. These reviews, published in the Correspondence Littéraire, were Diderot’s unique contribution to art criticism in France. He fulfilled his task of salonnier on nine occasions, despite occasional dips in his enthusiasm and self-confidence. Compiled and presented by Jean Szenec, this anthology helps the contemporary reader to familiarize himself with Diderot’s aesthetic thought in all its greatness. It includes eight illustrations and is followed by texts from Jean Starobinski, Michel Delon, and Arthur Cohen. ‘On Art and Artists’ is translated by John Glaus, professor of French and an amateur expert of the XVIIIth century.
