Synopsis Evaluation of Injection Materials for the Repair of Deep Cracks in Concrete Structures. Repair, Evaluation, Maintenance, and Rehabilitation Research Program by :

Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc., was requested by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to perform a laboratory study to evaluate injection materials for the filling and repair of deep, narrow cracks in massive concrete structures. The emphasis of this study was on epoxies; however, high-molecular-weight methacrylates, ultrafine cements, and polyurethanes were also considered. A laboratory test program was developed to evaluate the properties that are considered to be important for injection materials. These properties included viscosity, surface tension, gel time, penetration, and bond strength to wet concrete. A literature survey and telephone interviews were performed prior to selecting the materials for testing, and a spreadsheet was constructed to aid in choosing the materials to be tested. This report also includes the literature survey and laboratory test data. The objective of this proposed research is to determine the most promising products (materials), equipment, and procedures available that could most effectively be used to cause the material to most deeply and uniformly penetrate and "heal" existing cracks in massive hydraulic structures. Synopsis Injection Technologies for the Repair of Damaged Concrete Structures by : V.V. Panasyuk

This book analyzes the most important achievements in science and engineering practice concerning operational factors that cause damage to concrete and reinforced concrete structures. It includes methods for assessing their strength and service life, especially those that are based on modern concepts of the fracture mechanics of materials. It also includes basic approaches to the prediction of the remaining service life for long-term operational structures. Much attention is paid to injection technologies for restoring the serviceability of damaged concrete and reinforced concrete structures. In particular, technologies for remedying holes, cracks, corrosion damages etc. The books contains sample cases in which the above technologies have been used to restore structural integrity and extend the reliable service life of concrete and reinforced concrete constructions, especially NPPs, underground railways, bridges, seaports and historical relics.

Synopsis Repair of Earthquake Damaged Concrete and Masonry Wall Buildings by : Federal Emergency Agency

Following the two damaging California earthquakes in1989 (Loma Prieta) and 1994 (Northridge), many concrete wall and masonry wall buildings were repaired using federal disaster assistance funding. The repairs were based on inconsistent criteria, giving rise to controversy regarding criteria for the repair of cracked concrete and masonry wall buildings. To help resolve this controversy, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) initiated a project on evaluation and repair of earthquake-damaged concrete and masonry wall buildings in 1996. The ATC-43 project addresses the investigation and evaluation of earthquake damage and discusses policy issues related to the repair and upgrade of earthquake-damaged buildings. The project deals with buildings whose primary lateral-force-resisting systems consist of concrete or masonry bearing walls with flexible or rigid diaphragms, or whose vertical-load-bearing systems consist of concrete or steel frames with concrete or masonry infill panels. The intended audience is design engineers, building owners, building regulatory officials, and government agencies. The project results are reported in three documents. TheFEMA306report, Evaluation of Earthquake Damaged Concrete and Masonry Wall Buildings, Basic Procedures Manual, provides guidance on evaluating damage and analyzing future performance. Included in the document are component damage classification guides, and test and inspection guides. FEMA 307, Evaluation of Earthquake Damaged Concrete and Masonry Wall Buildings, Technical Resources, contains supplemental information including results from a theoretical analysis of the effects of prior damage on single-degree-of-freedom mathematical models, additional background information on the component guides, and an example of the application of the basic procedures. FEMA 308, The Repair of Earthquake Damaged Concrete and Masonry Wall Buildings ,discusses the policy issues pertaining to the repair of earthquake-damaged buildings and illustrates how the procedures developed for the project can be used to provide a technically sound basis for policy decisions. It also provides guidance for the repair of damaged components.

Synopsis Engineering and Design by : Us Army Corps Of Engineers

This manual provides guidance on evaluating the condition of the concrete in a structure, relating the condition of the concrete to the underlying cause or causes of that condition, selecting an appropriate repair material and method for any deficiency found, and using the selected materials and methods to repair or rehabilitate the structure. Guidance is also included on maintenance of concrete and on preparation of concrete investigation reports for repair and rehabilitation projects. Considerations for certain specialized types of rehabilitation projects are also given.
