This book gathers the proceedings of the I-ESA’18 Conference, which was organised by the Fraunhofer IPK, on behalf of the European Virtual Laboratory for Enterprise Interoperability (INTEROP-VLab) and the DFI, and was held in Berlin, Germany in March 2018. In 2007 INTEROP-VLab defined Enterprise Interoperability as “the ability of an enterprise system or application to interact with others at a low cost with a flexible approach”. Enterprise Interoperability VI brings together a peer reviewed selection of over 40 papers, ranging from academic research through case studies to industrial and administrative experience of interoperability. It shows how, in a scenario of globalised markets, the capacity to cooperate with other firms efficiently becomes essential in order to remain in the market in an economically, socially and environmentally cost-effective manner, and that the most innovative enterprises are beginning to redesign their business model to become interoperable. This goal of interoperability is vital, not only from the perspective of the individual enterprise but also in the new business structures that are now emerging, such as supply chains, virtual enterprises, interconnected organisations or extended enterprises, as well as in mergers and acquisitions. Establishing efficient and relevant collaborative situations requires managing interoperability from a dynamic perspective: a relevant and efficient collaboration of organizations might require adaptation to remain in line with potentially changing objectives, evolving resources, and unexpected events, for example. Interoperability of enterprises is one of the main requirements for economical and industrial collaborative networks. Enterprise interoperability (EI) is based on the three domains: architectures and platforms, ontologies and enterprise modeling. This book presents the EI vision of the “Grand Sud-Ouest” pole (PGSO) of the European International Virtual Laboratory for Enterprise Interoperability (INTEROP-VLab). It includes the limitations, concerns and approaches of EI, as well as a proposed framework which aims to define and delimit the concept of an EI domain. The authors present the basic concepts and principles of decisional interoperability as well as concept and techniques for interoperability measurement. The use of these previous concepts in a healthcare ecosystem and in an extended administration is also presented.

Internet-based information systems, the second covering the large-scale in- gration of heterogeneous computing systems and data resources with the aim of providing a global computing space. Eachofthesefourconferencesencouragesresearcherstotreattheirrespective topics within a framework that incorporates jointly (a) theory, (b) conceptual design and development, and (c) applications, in particular case studies and industrial solutions. Following and expanding the model created in 2003, we again solicited and selected quality workshop proposals to complement the more “archival” nature of the main conferences with research results in a number of selected and more “avant-garde” areas related to the general topic of Web-based distributed c- puting. For instance, the so-called Semantic Web has given rise to several novel research areas combining linguistics, information systems technology, and ar- ?cial intelligence, such as the modeling of (legal) regulatory systems and the ubiquitous nature of their usage. We were glad to see that ten of our earlier s- cessful workshops (ADI, CAMS, EI2N, SWWS, ORM, OnToContent, MONET, SEMELS, COMBEK, IWSSA) re-appeared in 2008 with a second, third or even ?fth edition, sometimes by alliance with other newly emerging workshops, and that no fewer than three brand-new independent workshops could be selected from proposals and hosted: ISDE, ODIS and Beyond SAWSDL. Workshop - diences productively mingled with each other and with those of the main c- ferences, and there was considerable overlap in authors.

The ATOP (Agent-Based Technologies and Applications for Enterprise Interoperability) workshop series focuses on technologies that support interoperability in networked organizations, on successful applications of these technologies, and on lessons learned. In particular, ATOP brings together research combining ideas from MDA and SOA with agent technologies. The ATOP 2009 and 2010 workshops were held at the AAMAS conferences in Budapest, Hungary, in May 2009, and in Toronto, Canada, in May 2010. The 11 papers presented here were carefully reviewed by three members of the international Program Committee and selected out of 25 contributions to the workshops. The topics covered are modeling interoperable systems; semantic approaches to enterprise interoperability; and interoperable business processes and business interactions. These papers are completed by an invited contribution reporting on OMG agent standardization. The main goal was to collect approaches for the application of agent technologies in these areas. Current trends in the development of agent technologies are compared with recent developments in service-oriented and model-driven system design, with respect to their ability to solve interoperability problems.

Software Engineering Approaches to Enable Digital Transformation Technologies features contributions reflecting ideas and research in enabling digital transformation technologies through software engineering. To date, multiple, different approaches have been adopted to develop software solutions for a variety of different problems. Of all the available approaches, the main approaches are level-oriented, data flow-oriented, data structure-oriented, and object-oriented design approaches. The other focus of the book is digital transformation, which can be defined as the adoption of digital technology to improve efficiency, value, and innovation Digitalization is more than just putting additional technological systems and services in place. Rather than improving conventional methods, a true digital transformation initiative includes radically rethinking company structures and procedures. There are four types of digital transformation: business process, business model, domain, and cultural and organizational. Companies are being challenged to develop new business models that consider and harness digitalization. From the standpoint of software engineering, digital transformation alters how software is built. Current trends include the development of mobile applications, cloud applications, and Internet of Things (IoT) applications. Emerging trends are the development of digital twins, robotics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, augmented reality, and additive manufacturing. This book examines the challenges that arise due to digitization in society and presents plausible solutions that could be applied to counter these challenges and convert them into opportunities. These solutions may further be improvised and worked out for the software companies from the technological perspective, organizational perspective, and management perspective.

Modern critical infrastructures (CIs) (e.g., electricity, water, transportation, telecommunications, and others) form complex systems with a high degree of interdependencies from one CI to the others. Natural disasters (e.g., earthquakes, floods, droughts, landslides, and wildfires), humanmade disasters (e.g., sabotage and terrorism), and system faults (due to structural and equipment failures) will affect not only the directly impacted CI but all interdependent CIs. Risk assessment, therefore, has to be done over the entire system of CIs and should also include the social and personal impacts. According to a 2022 report, 80% of cities have been affected by significant climate change hazards represented by extreme heat (46%), heavy rainfall (36%), drought (35%), and floods (33%). The impacts of climate change, therefore, affect the complex system of the built environment and result in interrelated consequences at different scales ranging from single buildings to urban spaces and territorial infrastructures. Since it is not possible to reduce the severity of natural hazards, the main opportunity for lowering risk lies in reducing vulnerability and exposure. Vulnerability and exposure are related to urban development choices and practices that weaken the system’s robustness. This volume reviews recent insights from risk identification and reduction to preparedness and financial protection strategies and proposes new approaches for better CIs and built environment protection.
