Synopsis Electromagnetic Interactions of Hadrons by : A. Donnachie

While electromagnetic interactions were first used to probe the structure of elementary particles more than 20 years ago, their importance has only become fully evident in the last 10 years. In the resonance region, photo production experiments have provided clear evidence for simple quark model ideas, and confirmed the Melosh-transformed SU(6)w as a relevant symmetry classification. At higher energies, their most striking feature is their similarity to hadron-induced reactions, and they have provided fresh insight into the ideas developed to explain strong-interaction physics. New dimensions are added by taking the photon off mass shell, both in the spacelike region, where the development of high-energy electron and muon beams has led to the discovery and study of scaling and the intro duction of "partons," and even more dramatically in the timelike region, where the development of high-energy electron-positron storage rings has led to the exciting discoveries of the last four years. In view of the immense interest stimulated by these developments, an extensive review of our present state of knowledge is both timely and useful. Because of the very wide range of the subject, a cooperative venture presents itself as the most suitable format and is the one we have adopted here. The emphasis throughout is primarily, but not entirely, on phenomenology, concentrating on describing the main features of the experimental data and on the theoretical ideas used directly in their inter pretation.

Synopsis The Particle Detector BriefBook by : Rudolf K. Bock

This BriefBook is a much extended glossary or a much condensed handbook, depending on the way one looks at it. It deals with detectors in particle and nuclear physics experiments. The authors describe, in encyclopedic format, the physics, the application, and the analysis of data from these detectors. Ample reference is made to the published literature. An introduction for newcomers, a reference for scientists.

Synopsis Introduction to Quantum Technologies by : Alto Osada

This book is a concise primer of quantum technology aiming at providing a comprehensive material of fundamentals to help beginners understand the common concepts and background theories to technologies for individual quantum systems. Further, it also describes how the concepts and theories are applied to technologies in various systems. This book consists of three parts. The first part looks back over basics of quantum mechanics necessary for the main content, including quantum state and operators, time evolution and perturbation theory. The second part explains in detail key components indispensable to follow quantum technologies: two-level systems, harmonic oscillator and cavity quantum electrodynamics and resonators. In the third part, the physical quantum systems are treated in a more abstract way by introducing quantum logic gates, quantum measurement and quantum error correction. Technical supplements are included in Appendices. The well-compiled topics and concise presentation feature the book as a supplemental primer in the courses of quantum technologies including quantum computing, quantum communication, quantum sensing and quantum simulation.
