Synopsis Elders at the Gate by : Ray Blunt

The young need anchoring in adult connections; their elders need purpose in their last lap-together they can restore the broken links of the design for a full, meaningful life.We sense that something important is broken. The younger among us are disconnected in an over-connected world-often lonely, slow to mature, and anxious, they seek safety while abandoning the comfort of faith. Their elders have long, healthy years ahead, but toward what end? Retirement as a time to indulge a desire to travel, or to spend their days in leisure can come to seem purposeless. Together neither have re-discovered the wisdom meant for a full life and the mission that has been built into the last phase, both of which arise from God's good design for the generations. This way of life has all but been obscured in the search for individual happiness. Herein, today's elders at the gate are given the vision, encouragement, and understanding for how they can become the mentors they are designed to be, beginning to help repair the broken links between the generations and committing their lives to bringing maturity and meaning to those who follow.

Synopsis Divinity by : Ev. Paul Mukendi

No book has ever attempted to deal with the subject of divinity in its entirety. Here at long last is a comprehensive book dealing with divine beings in its complexity. It provides the reader with accurate and insightful knowledge concerning the concept of divinity. The author gives a clear explanation of the Triune nature of God. God is one being, manifest and existing in three distinct identities or persons, which is further discussed as being comparable with the makeup of a human being. God shares his divine nature with spiritual beings in the heavens with angels and on earth with humankind. The divine nature of God resides in all spirits. Therefore, men have Gods nature in their spirits; they can communicate with and receive the things of the spiritual realm. Through sin, humanity has lost the nature of God; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. The purpose of the Bible is to spiritualize humankind, because we have fallen short of the glory of God. The broad focus of this book is to bring as many believers to a stage of maturity in the knowledge of Christ.

Synopsis The Book of the Elders by :

In the early part of the fourth century, a few Christians, mostly men and some women, began to withdraw from "the world" to retreat into the desert, there to practice their new religion more seriously. The person who aspired to "renounce the world" first had to find an "elder," a person who would accept him as a disciple and apprentice. To his elder (whom he would address as abba—father) the neophyte owed complete obedience; from his abba, he would receive provisions (as it were) for the road to virtue. In addition to the abba's own example of living, there was the verbal teaching of the elders in sayings and tales, setting out the theory and practice of the eremitic life. In due course, these sayings (or apophthegmata) were written down and, later, collected and codified. The earliest attempts to codify tales and sayings are now lost. As the collection grew, they were first organized alphabetically, according to the name of the abba who spoke them, in a major collection known as the Apophthegmata Patrum Alphabetica. A supplementary collection, the Anonymous Apophthegmata, followed. Later, both collections were combined and arranged systematically rather than alphabetically. This collection was created sometime between 500 and 575 and later went through a couple of major revisions, the second of which appeared sometime before 970. This second revision was published in an excellent new critical edition, with a French translation, in 1993. Now, in The Book of the Elders, John Wortley offers an English translation of this collection, based entirely on the Greek of that text.
