Martin Akwari’s first book, “To Clap with One Hand”, keeps generating a lot of interest from the reading public and has been described by some as a compelling read. In this collection, originally titled, “Sounds from the Seasons of Life” he attempts to bring to life his love for poetry. Under its original title, part of the collection was, in 1987, listed in a national Poetry Prize in his native, Nigeria. From those early years to the present, these poems still resonate with life and lure the mind to take deep spiritual journeys into scenes and images which he creates and displays, as in a market place, from line to line and page to page. Readers could, with careful attention, relate with these scenes, images and words and to carry on with creating own stories from there. That will be a strong point for this collection.
