Synopsis ECHOES OF ANCIENT AFRICAN VALUES by : Joseph A. Bailey, II, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Ancient Africans, perhaps around 5500 BC, established a tradition based upon truth, goodness, beauty, and other immaterial and intangible aspects of things of worth. Believing all of God’s creations were forever linked, they focused on having good relations with and behaviors toward fellow human beings and with nature – both for the purpose of reaching a heaven afterlife. Out of these concepts arose the sense of community, including the practice of no person being left behind. Echoes of Ancient African Values discusses who Ancient Africans were as a people; their genius and creative ways of thinking; their philosophical and spiritual foundations; and their world shaping achievements. Unfortunately, peoples throughout the world have failed to realize or acknowledge the fact that Ancient Africans have produced the most brilliance civilization and culture the world has ever known. This applies whether the measure is by significance, greatness, or numbers. The fashioning of such brilliance inside high morals not only transcended space and time but also designed sublime echoes. A major premise of this book is that these echoes were extremely instrumental in enabling Ancient African slaves to survive their hellish situation as well as having ongoingly contributed to the recovery of Black Americans from the effects of slavery. Numerous examples are given. Otherwise, what is stressed to all peoples in the world is that Ancient African Values contain workable answers for solving every type of problem concerning humanity.

Synopsis Echoes of Ancient African Values by : Joseph A. Bailey II M. D. F. a. C. S.

Each night at my restaurant, Robert's of Charleston, my staff and I prepare and present a unique menu. Those of our guests who themselves have some culinary expertise and indeed any who have ever attempted to prepare a dinner party know that a good menu starts with correct recipes to make the meal both enjoyable and memorable. My training at the Culinary Institute of America taught me to read the written recipe with much discernment. Thus, I have tried to make these recipes as straightforward as possible, leaving nothing to chance for you. A complete step-by-step guide to build signature sauces is how I want you to lean to add that expert touch to every dish. They reflect my collection from over forty years in the numerous establishments I have worked. The sixty sauces are "finger-licking-good." The first section is designed to be an alchemy of goodness, but it does not stop there. The soup recipes range from broth style with egg and cheese to Clam Chowder, Cream of Cauliflower and more, ending with Lobster Bisque. The entrees chapter provides a sampling of the most favored American meats: beef, Cornish hens, lamb, veal, pork, seafood, and others; and, their recipes will be a good cooking foundation for the novice as well as the expert. Recipes in the accompaniments yield full-flavor and are exquisitely aromatic. They are an essential component of the meal. Experience Caponata, ratatouille, or as a stand alone, County-Style Pate'. Desserts range from delicate and delectable, to classically comfortable. Whatever their degree of complexity, desserts demand close attention to detail, whether in removing the pith from an orange peel or in carefully separating eggs for a custard. The ingredients themselves are seldom elaborate unlike my recipes: tortes, tarts, mousses, soufflés, crepes, pies, cakes, sorbets, and trifles. When you have cooked your way through my book you will feel more comfortable in your own kitchen. My recipes draw upon the techniques and flavors of cultures from around the world as the seamlessly integrate European traditionalism with Asian minimalism and American ingenuity and spontaneity. The book provides dishes for home entertaining. Whether you want a quick fix family meal, a backyard barbeque feast, or a five-course dinner . . . shut off the food cooking show, get in your kitchen, open a bottle of wine and cook with me!

Synopsis Debating African Philosophy by : George Hull

In African countries there has been a surge of intellectual interest in foregrounding ideas and thinkers of African origin—in philosophy as in other disciplines—that have been unjustly ignored or marginalized. African scholars have demonstrated that precolonial African cultures generated ideas and arguments which were at once truly philosophical and distinctively African, and several contemporary African thinkers are now established figures in the philosophical mainstream. Yet, despite the universality of its themes, relevant contributions from African philosophy have rarely permeated global philosophical debates. Critical intellectual excavation has also tended to prioritize precolonial thought, overlooking more recent sources of home-grown philosophical thinking such as Africa’s intellectually rich liberation movements. This book demonstrates the potential for constructive interchange between currents of thought from African philosophy and other intellectual currents within philosophy. Chapters authored by leading and emerging scholars: recover philosophical thinkers and currents of ideas within Africa and about Africa, bringing them into dialogue with contemporary mainstream philosophy; foreground the relevance of African theorizing to contemporary debates in epistemology, philosophy of language, moral/political philosophy, philosophy of race, environmental ethics and the metaphysics of disability; make new interventions within on-going debates in African philosophy; consider ways in which philosophy can become epistemically inclusive, interrogating the contemporary call for ‘decolonization’ of philosophy. Showing how foregrounding Africa—its ideas, thinkers and problems—can help with the project of renewing and improving the discipline of philosophy worldwide, this book will stimulate and challenge everyone with an interest in philosophy, and is essential reading for upper-level undergraduate students, postgraduate students and scholars of African and Africana philosophy.

Synopsis Perspectives on Igwebuike Philosophy: by : Chiugo C. Kanu Ph.D

The study of African philosophy, like all great philosophical enquiries around the world, is fraught with the wrecks of words, wrenched from their original meaning, widened or narrowed, and forced into a bewildering variety of vessels that chum their ways in seas of semantic confusion. African philosophical studies has acquired and added to the many philosophical verbal transmogrifications that came originally from the Igbo of south-eastern Nigeria. In its turn, it has produced its own eccentric philosophical etymology, of which, perhaps the most striking example is Igwebuike philosophy. A reflection on Igwebuike philosophy reveals that it is a product of a meticulous and critical study of African philosophy. It is in this light that the scrupulous researcher would dissect the profound thinker behind the Igwebuike philosophy. In this book, scholars of different hues and academic endeavours have made excursus into the origin, originator, meaning and relevance of Igwebuike philosophy to contemporary African philosophical scholarship and African societies. Research shows that the brain behind Igwebuike philosophy that is gradually becoming a major part of African philosophical engagement is incontestably Prof Ikechukwu Anthony Kanu, O.S.A. Igwebuike itself is a philosophical principle that is drawn from African primordial practice of solidarity and complementarity; the works of professional African philosophers, African proverbs, African folk tales, African mythology, African symbols, African names and African songs. — Kanayo L. Synopsis European-language Writing in Sub-Saharan Africa by : Albert S. Gérard

The first major comparative study of African writing in western languages, European-language Writing in Sub-Saharan Africa, edited by Albert S. Gérard, falls into four wide-ranging sections: an overview of early contacts and colonial developments "Under Western Eyes"; chapters on "Black Consciousness" manifest in the debates over Panafricanism and Negritude; a group of essays on mental decolonization expressed in "Black Power" texts at the time of independence struggles; and finally "Comparative Vistas," sketching directions that future comparative study might explore.
