The majority of the poems incorporated in this book of poetry have been inspired through my association with the former base for poets from the Philadelphia and New Jersey area known as Poetry in the Park. This venue was located inside of Cooper river Park in New Jersey. The group met twice a month and shared poetic ideas, we were like a family, exchanging ideas and encouraging each other as brothers and sisters. Our ring leader was Brother Daoud Bey who was Mr. everything, doing anything that need to be done from MC, keeping things in order, providing music, encouragement, food for thought. And a big kind heart.! Brother Bey was the right hand of Sandra Turner Barnes, Executive Director of Camden County Cultural Heritage Commission. She worked tirelessly to maintain Poetry in The Park for 10 years at the aforementioned location. I was a part of seven of those years at my home away from home. We have found another location in a larger better venue, located in the City of Camden, New Jersey a part of The IDEA Center at the Susquehanna Bank Center.

Akiko's always prepared for something out of this world, but when she goes on a pleasure trip to Gollarondo with Poog, Mr. Beeba, Spuckler Boach, and Gax she can barely believe her eyes--Gollarondo is a city that was built completely upside down! But the people who bought the parts run the gamut from off the wall to downright villainous, so saving Gax's neck (and body and wheels) may turn out to be Akiko's most dangerous mission yet.

A book marketer recently asked me what genre my new series is, and I had to think for a minute to figure that out. Eventually, I came up with Autobiographical Supernatural Horror. Now, I realize that sounds more like fantasy than reality; but consider this: if your family has monsters in it, and you write about that family, what do you call it? Franz Kafka wrote about a man who transformed for unknown reasons into a cockroach (obviously autobiographical), and no one batted an eye. My story covers adoption, abortion, LGBT rights, cancer, gay marriage, science, violent crime, small farming in California, missionary work, the arid, modern university environment, AIDS, teaching, and the terrible toxicity of an insular family submerged deep within an abusive religious cult. And all I did was describe my experience growing up in a "normal" American family (of monsters). For the purposes of focus and variety, I've framed the first book around my family's oldest sibling, MY SISTER, SUZIE, a girl who was adopted at birth, and had all the cards stacked against her. The second book recounts the life of OUR LITTLE SISTER, who started her life as a sick and weak little girl but eventually won a college diploma and a man. The final book details some pretty horrific transformations and catastrophes, since it deals with a disastrous mother-son relationship. In his latest book, John Clark, author of the highly regarded "Beaches of Hawaii" series, gives us the many captivating stories behind the hundreds of Hawaii place names associated with the ocean--the names of shores, beaches, and other sites where people fish, swim, dive, surf, and paddle. Significant features and landmarks on or near shores, such as fishponds, monuments, shrines, reefs, and small islands, are also included. The names of surfing sites are the most numerous and among the most colorful: from the purely descriptive (Black Rock, Blue Hole) to the humorous (No Can Tell, Pray for Sex). Clark began gathering information for the "Beaches" series in 1972, and during the years that followed interviewed hundreds of informants, many of them native Hawaiians, and consulted dozens of Hawaiian reference books, newspapers, and maps. A significant amount of the oral history he collected was unrecorded and remained only in his notebooks and memory. Hawaii Place Names: Shores, Beaches, and Surf Sites is the final result of those years of research, and like its popular predecessors, it benefits substantially from Clark's having spent a lifetime surfing and swimming Hawaii's beaches.
