Synopsis The Donut Emails by : George Schnurle
So how do you introduce a new employee at a high-tech venture-funded Silicon Valley startup? You have the Chief Donut Officer (CDO) send everyone a Donut Email! Here is an example for the new Director of HR: So what does our new Director of HR do? Let's give an example from another large organization. In "Lord of the Rings," Sauron is the Chief Bad Guy, and he controls a vast army of Orcs, Goblins, and Flying Ringwraiths. How do you keep all these employees happy and productive? You have a Director of In-Human Resources who understands both their needs and also the regulatory environment of Middle Earth. What are the issues of harassment and grievances and on-the-job accidents with spears and battle-axes? The CDO brought Donuts and composed Donut emails nearly every Friday for four years. During that time, Data Domain developed a nifty product, hired a bunch of great people, grew to over $100M in annual sales, and went public. Never underestimate what people will do for a really good Donut.

Synopsis My Cosmic Trigger by : Matt Vaughn
High strangeness denotes happenings so uncanny they are deemed "utterly absurd." It involves the intersection of multiple paranormal phenomena, revealing an eerie undergirding of reality. MY COSMIC TRIGGER is a deep dive into the subject, covering its history, theories, and notable researchers, analyzing mechanisms behind this cosmic enigma. The author's personal experiences provide a penetrating understanding of the phenomenon by demonstrating how and why extramundane weirdness manifests on a personal level, helping people navigate their own 'synchromystic initiation' with a sense of clarity, fostering a constructive relationship with odd occurrences (not a destabilizing one), and enabling readers to successfully pull their own cosmic trigger.

Synopsis Gonzo Marketing by : Christopher Locke
Ladies and gentlemen, please return your tray tables to the fully upright and locked position, suspend your disbelief and put on your tinfoil pyramid hats. We are now entering -- [cue lights, cue music] the Brand Dimension! Gonzo Marketing is a knuckle-whitening ride to the place where social criticism, biting satire, and serious commerce meet -- and where the outdated ideals of mass marketing and broadcast media are being left in the dust. As master of ceremonies at the wake for traditional one-size-fits-all marketing, Locke has assembled a unique guest list, from Geoffrey Chaucer to Hunter S. Thompson, to guide us through the revolution that is rocking business today, as people connect on the Web to form powerful micromarkets. These networked communities, based on candor, trust, passion, and a general disdain for anything that smacks of corporate smugness, reflect much deeper trends in our culture, which Locke illuminates with his characteristic wit. Just as gonzo journalism arose in response to "objective" news standards that claimed to foster fairness but in practice discouraged writers from speaking their minds in their own voices, so too does gonzo marketing call for a similar response to assumptions about consumer behavior that no longer relate to how people actually live their lives. Gonzo Marketing is not yet-another nostrum for hoodwinking the unwary. It's about market advocacy. It describes how "the artist formerly known as advertising" must do a 180. It's about transforming the marketing message from "we want your money" to "we share your interests." It's about tapping into, listening to, and even forming alliances with emerging on-line markets, who probably know more about your company than you do. It's a hip-hop cover of boring old best practices played backwards. The paradox is that companies that support and promote these communities can have everything they've always wanted: greater market share, customer loyalty, brand equity. Irreverent, penetrating, profoundly simple, and on-the-money, Gonzo Marketing is the raucous wake-up that no one interested in any aspect of twenty-first century business-from the trading floor right up to the boardroom-can afford to ignore.

Synopsis Emails From the Year 2001 by : Andreas Daniel Fogg
Society’s interest in the preservation of persistent social problems; That society or cultures often have an unspoken, often unrecognized interest and some sort of gratification from the continued existence of most persistent and loudly decried social and economic even political problems. Since this appears to be the case, one way of attempting to solve such problems is to attempt to articulate or otherwise indicate which specific interests and needs are being served as a result of society’s ongoing inability to formulate or agree upon any specific course of legislation, policy making, or even some sort of specific discourse whose utilization might lay the groundwork for some sort of improvement. Consider the possibility that humanity might, while engaging in ever more efficient and less expensive modes of computerization and automation, effectively destroy real human economic activity. The possibility exists that as human “work” comes to be defined as ever less efficient and necessary for the production of goods and services, that real people will begin to be paid less and less. Eventually, however, humanity’s ability to purchase these ever more mechanized goods and services will begin to be seriously depleted. So that a point could theoretically arrive when a vast plethora of goods and services would be available for sale, however, the numbers of available purchasers would be constantly diminishing to the point where civility would begin to disappear, theft would become rampant. The scene would not be pretty.

Synopsis The Magic of Terry Pratchett by : Marc Burrows
An in-depth look into the life and writings of the bestselling author of the Discworld novels, Good Omens, and Nation. The Magic of Terry Pratchett is the first full biography of Sir Terry Pratchett ever written. Sir Terry was Britain’s bestselling living author*, and before his death in 2015 had sold more than 85 million copies of his books worldwide. Best known for the Discworld series, his work has been translated into thirty-seven languages, and performed as plays on every continent in the world, including Antarctica. Journalist, comedian and Pratchett fan Marc Burrows delves into the back story of one of UK’s most enduring and beloved authors, from his childhood in the Chiltern Hills, to his time as a journalist, and the journey that would take him—via more than sixty best-selling books—to an OBE, a knighthood and national treasure status. The Magic Of Terry Pratchett is the result of painstaking archival research alongside interviews with friends and contemporaries who knew the real man under the famous black hat, helping to piece together the full story of one of British literature’s most remarkable and beloved figures for the very first time. * Now disqualified on both counts. Praise for The Magic of Terry Pratchett "In this encompassing biography of the prolific fantasy and science-fiction author, writer and comedian Burrows details both the writing accomplishments and the personal life of Sir Terry Pratchett. . . . Burrows spoke to friends and family, and this biography has moments of sadness, especially when discussing Pratchett’s fight with Alzheimer’s. But the book is also funny and conversational in tone, and an excellent tribute to a beloved author.” —Booklist “Affable and consistently engaging . . . Burrow’s buoyant, pun-peppered, and aptly footnote-flecked style . . . helpfully marries his subject matter, propelling us through decade after decade of a heavily writing-centric life while illuminating Pratchett’s complexities and contradictions without any drag in the tempo.” —Locus Magazine “An impressively comprehensive, engagingly written biography. ****”—SFX
