Synopsis Dreams of a Farmer's Wife by : Jeanette Dyess Ryan
True stories of a city man from Kentucky who came to rural Alabama where he married a country girl in the 1950's. His heart's desire was to own a few acres of land and become a farmer even though his spouse never desired to be a "A Farmer's Wife." However, she toiled alongside her husband and children as she held fast to her dreams of someday building her dream house... Jeanette fondly looks back on the years when the rains came, the crops flourished and the market prices were advantageous. During those years her family felt as if the hard labor and long hours paid off. Life on the farm was demanding with little time for family vacations, but her children lived life to the fullest as they discovered adventures on the farm by chasing lightening bugs, walking through the fresh plowed dirt, riding horses and fishing the creeks. Having walked in the farmer's wife's shoes during productive times and also during times of adversity and crop failures, the author understood her neighbor's pain and tears when their family homes and farm land went into foreclosure. She realized that if not for the grace of God, it could have been their home, their property. She recalls gazing at a field of corn stalks drying because of drought and praying for rain as she searched the sky for a tiny dark rain cloud. Her family endured the lean years along with the productive years. Starting their life together with nothing, God met their needs and later blessed their farming endeavors. They lived the American dream of owning a few acres in the country to farm and a new home to enjoy.

Synopsis Faith, Farming, and Family by : Caitlin Henderson
A young farmer’s wife draws on her life with kids, cows, and a front-porch view to help us see God’s goodness and beauty wherever we are, reminding us that the simple life is not a place to be but a way to be. “Grab a cup of coffee and join Caitlin on her porch to hear the lessons God has taught her through the good and hard of everyday life.”—Vivian Mabuni, speaker and author of Open Hands, Willing Heart: Discover the Joy of Saying Yes to God When Caitlin, a small-town girl, fell in love with a farm boy named Jake Henderson, she had little idea what farm life—or marriage and motherhood—would bring. But raising a family on a farm is teaching her more about God’s goodness and grace than she could have imagined. Faith, Farming, and Family is a rich, story-filled walk through farmhouse hallways, harvest-ready fields, and God’s bountiful dreams for our lives. As Caitlin reflects on everything from wayward tractors to watching a marriage grow from surviving to flourishing, she reminds us to see the redemption in our own stories. Join Caitlin in exploring biblical truth through the eyes of a farmer’s wife, whether you are wrangling kids onto a school bus, sowing creative seeds in a business meeting, or walking the pastures of your own family farm. Faith, Farming, and Family invites us to recognize God’s beauty right in front of us so that we might find the courage to take the next step—or the first step—into His incredible calling.

Synopsis The New I Do by : Susan Pease Gadoua
If half of all cars bought in America each year broke down, there would be a national uproar. But when people suggest that maybe every single marriage doesn't look like the next and isn't meant to last until death, there's nothing but a rash of proposed laws trying to force it to do just that. In The New I Do, therapist Susan Pease Gadoua and journalist Vicki Larson take a groundbreaking look at the modern shape of marriage to help readers open their minds to marrying more consciously and creatively. Offering actual models of less-traditional marriages, including everything from a parenting marriage (intended for the sake of raising and nurturing children) to a comfort or safety marriage (where people marry for financial security or companionship), the book covers unique options for couples interested in forging their own paths. With advice to help listeners decide what works for them, The New I Doacts as a guide to thinking outside the marital box and the framework for a new debate on marriage in the 21st century.
