Synopsis Drawn to Warmth by : Peter Schatborn
In the 16th and 17th centuries Italy acted like a magnet to artists from Northern Europe. They went to draw the classical monuments and the landscape, and to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the Renaissance. Back in the Low Countries, they used the impressions they had absorbed during their stay in the south in their paintings, drawings, and prints. Drawn to Warmth presents the first representative survey of drawings by these artists. An account of their travels and their adventures in Italy accompanies illustrations of many of the works they made there. There are examples by Paul Bril, Cornelis Poelenburch, Jan Aselijn, Jan Both, among others. Many of these drawings appear in print for the first time. The book also looks at a number of artists who did not themselves go to Italy, but who were inspired by their more widely traveled colleagues in the Netherlands.

Synopsis Twisted Devotion by : Stig Kristensen
Lila thought she had found the perfect love—a mysterious stranger who made her feel seen, special, and alive in ways she never imagined. But in the quiet town of Whitworth, appearances are deceiving, and the allure of eternal love masks a dark, predatory hunger. As Lila's world begins to unravel, friends disappear, and her family falls apart, she clings to the belief that Sebastian is her protector. But the truth is far more sinister, and Lila soon finds herself at the center of a chilling game of control and obsession—where the price of love is nothing less than her soul. A gripping tale of twisted romance and horror, Twisted Devotion explores the terrifying line between love and possession, where a charming smile hides a monstrous truth. Some loves are meant to destroy—and not every heart that yearns for passion survives the darkness.

Synopsis The Tinkerer's Accomplice by : J. Scott Turner
Most people, when they contemplate the living world, conclude that it is a designed place. So it is jarring when biologists come along and say this is all wrong. What most people see as design, they say--purposeful, directed, even intelligent--is only an illusion, something cooked up in a mind that is eager to see purpose where none exists. In these days of increasingly assertive challenges to Darwinism, the question becomes acute: is our perception of design simply a mental figment, or is there something deeper at work? Physiologist Scott Turner argues eloquently and convincingly that the apparent design we see in the living world only makes sense when we add to Darwin's towering achievement the dimension that much modern molecular biology has left on the gene-splicing floor: the dynamic interaction between living organisms and their environment. Only when we add environmental physiology to natural selection can we begin to understand the beautiful fit between the form life takes and how life works. In The Tinkerer's Accomplice, Scott Turner takes up the question of design as a very real problem in biology; his solution poses challenges to all sides in this critical debate.
