Synopsis Dragon's Wine and Angel's Bread by : Evagrius (Ponticus)

"Evagrius Ponticus (343-399 AD), an influential writer among the early Christian monks, spent sixteen years in the desert of Egypt, mostly at Kellia (the Cells). He was a disciple of the two Macarii - saints of Egypt and of Alexandria - under whose guidance he became a "philosopher," one who writes about the Christian life." "This study of Evagrius' writings on anger, and its causes, consequences and cures, offers useful spiritual insight with practical applications for the post-modern reader. Drawing from Evagrius' voluminous writings, the author examines the stirrings of the human heart, deftly diagnosing the souces of overblown and wayward anger." --Book Jacket.

Synopsis Angels by : Rev. Msgr. J. Brian Bransfield

Angels are all around us. They are not fairy-tale creatures or New Age sprites but powerful beings created by God to reflect his light. And while we often are not aware of them, the angels are deeply interested in us. In Angels: Our Guardians in Spiritual Battle, moral theologian, author, and speaker Msgr. Brian Bransfield teaches us how to recognize the angels present in our lives. Drawing on Scripture, the Church Fathers, and the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Msgr. Bransfield shows how the angels — the good angels who serve God and the evil angels who fell with Lucifer — influence us in powerful ways. The evil angels are insidious as they seek to lure us into sin and away from God. The good and holy angels help us combat the wiles of the demons and accompany us on our mission of sharing Christ with the world. They serve as God’s humble yet powerful messengers and our guardians in the wilderness of this life, strengthening us against temptation. Ultimately, they lead us to the glory of the Resurrection so that we might share the victory of Jesus over sin and death.

Synopsis The Golden Cord by : Kristin A. Vargas

The Golden Cord takes readers on a journey through Saint John Chrysostom's teaching on the Christian family. Coupling his spiritual wisdom with insights from some of the greatest modern thinkers, The Golden Cord invites thoughtful parents and teachers to delve deeper into the treasury of their ancient Christian heritage. Faith, tradition, and contemporary thought do not always have to be at odds. The author explores how current and ancient sources can agree on the subject of how the Christian family can grow together in virtue and stand firm against the powerful antichristian forces that move through secular society. This exploration focuses on three key elements of St. John's pedagogy for the family: spiritual exercise, imitation, and story-telling.

Synopsis The Human Person by : J. Brian

In the 20th Century three social revolutions—the industrial, sexual, and technological revolutions—challenged the religious convictions of many. John Paul II’s teaching on the theology of the body was his response to the resulting societal shifts. Fr. Bransfield explores John Paul II’s response to the challenges raised by these revolutions. In this context Bransfield then explores how Theology of the Body leads us to live the fullness of the Christian life.

Synopsis The Bread of Life: Or Saint Thomas Aquinas on the Adorable Sacrament of the Altar by : Saint Thomas Aquinas

There is a very beautiful treatise of St. Thomas Aquinas on the adorable Sacrament of the Altar. It is hard to know which to admire more, the fulness and precision of its arrangement, or the way in which he brings in the words of the Holy Ghost from the Sacred Scriptures. From this treatise, and nearly always in its very words, I have arranged these Meditations for the Servants of the Holy Ghost. In fact, all that was needed was to number or letter the divisions of the book so that they could be easily seen. The prayers and thanksgivings I have added. I have put the teaching of the Saint by itself, and the words of the Holy Ghost by themselves. In this I have only carried out what St. Thomas has himself done in the treatise. For the more part he has, after stating and explaining his points, put the texts by themselves, referring to the first point, the second point, the third point, and so on. Putting them all together, therefore, is only carrying out what this Angelic Saint has done. Aeterna Press
