Synopsis Digital Techniques in Broadcasting Transmission by : Robin Blair
Most professional engineers working in broadcast transmission have been trained in the analog techniques used in the industry until now. Engineers who are familiar with analog TV broadcast systems are now faced with designing, operating and maintaining digital TV systems. Conversely, few engineers skilled in digital communication have experience in the high power and high voltage techniques demanded in broadcasting transmission. Digital Techniques in Broadcast Transmission is a practical reference guide for the broadcast engineer to make the transition from analog to digital. Emphasis is on digital communication at the level of the practicing broadcast engineer and the application of digital principles to high-powered broadcast transmission. This book provides, in an easy-to-understand comprehensive manner, the information required to educate engineers about the intricacies of digital television signal transmission. Engineers and managers involved in technical transmission issues will find this an essential resource to simplify the transition from analog to digital and will not want to be without this book.

Synopsis DVB by : Ulrich Reimers
This second edition provides first-hand information about the most recent developments in the exciting and fast moving field of telecommunications media and consumer electronics. The DVB group developed the standards which are being used in Europe, Australia, Southeast Asia, and many other parts of the world. Some 150 major TV broadcasting companies as well as suppliers for technical equipment are members of the project. This standard is expected to be accepted for worldwide digital HDTV broadcasting. This book is readable for non-experts with a background in analog transmission, and demonstrates the fascinating possibilities of digital technology. For the second edition, the complete text has been up-dated thoroughly. The latest DVB standards are included in three new sections on Interactive Television, Data Broadcasting, and The Multimedia Home Platform.

Synopsis Digital Transmission Systems by : David R. Smith
In the development of telecommunication networks throughout the world, digital transmission has now replaced analog transmission as the predominant choice for new transmission facilities. This trend began in the early 1960s when the American Telephone and Telegraph Company first introduced pulse code modulation as a means of increasing capacity in their cable plant. Since that time, digital transmission applications have grown dramatically, notably in the United States, Canada, Japan, and Western Europe. With the rapidity of digital transmission developments and imple mentation, however, there has been a surprising lack of textbooks written on the subject. This book grew out of my work, research, and teaching in digital transmission systems. My objective is to provide an overview of the subject. To accomplish this end, theory has been blended with practice in order to illustrate how one applies theoretical principles to actual design and imple mentation. The book has abundant design examples and references to actual systems. These examples have been drawn from common carriers, manufac turers, and my own experience. Considerable effort has been made to include up-to-date standards, such as those published by the CCITT and CCIR, and to interpret their recommendations in the context of present-day digital transmission systems.

Covering everything from signal processing algorithms to integrated circuit design, this complete guide to digital front-end is invaluable for professional engineers and researchers in the fields of signal processing, wireless communication and circuit design. Showing how theory is translated into practical technology, it covers all the relevant standards and gives readers the ideal design methodology to manage a rapidly increasing range of applications. Step-by-step information for designing practical systems is provided, with a systematic presentation of theory, principles, algorithms, standards and implementation. Design trade-offs are also included, as are practical implementation examples from real-world systems. A broad range of topics is covered, including digital pre-distortion (DPD), digital up-conversion (DUC), digital down-conversion (DDC) and DC-offset calibration. Other important areas discussed are peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction, crest factor reduction (CFR), pulse-shaping, image rejection, digital mixing, delay/gain/imbalance compensation, error correction, noise-shaping, numerical controlled oscillator (NCO) and various diversity methods.

Synopsis Digital Audio Broadcasting by : Wolfgang Hoeg
Now the standardisation work of DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting)system is finished many broadcast organisations, network providersand receiver manufacturers in European countries and outside ofEurope (for example Canada and the Far East) will be installing DABbroadcast services as pilot projects or public services. Inaddition some value added services (data and video services) areunder development or have already started as pilot projects. The new digital broadcast system DAB distinguishes itself fromexisting conventional broadcast systems, and the various newinternational standards and related documents (from ITU-R, ISO/IEC,ETSI, EBU, EUREKA147, and others) are not readily available and aredifficult to read for users. Therefore it is essential that a wellstructured technical handbook should be available. The Second Edition of Digital Audio Broadcasting has beenfully updated with new sections and chapters added to reflect allthe latest developments and advances. Digital Audio Broadcasting: Provides a fully updated comprehensive overview of DAB Covers international standards, applications and othertechnical issues Combines the expertise of leading researchers in the field ofDAB Now covers such new areas as: IP-Tunneling via DAB; ElectronicProgramme Guide for DAB; and Metadata A comprehensive overview of DAB specifically written forplanning and system engineers, developers for professional anddomestic equipment manufacturers, service providers, as well aspostgraduate students and lecturers in communicationstechnology.
