Interactive Dictations is a low-intermediate to intermediate level text that is intended to improve the listening, speaking, and writing skills of ESL students. Following the discussions, there are an optional writing topic and a variety of other activities, including idiom/vocabulary work, role plays, and many cooperative learning activities. Reading skills are also reinforced, along with attention to vocabulary and grammar. This text provides a wide variety of dictations that include provocative news items, problems to solve, and decisions to make. - There are four different types of dictation: - Partial (Cloze): Students listen and fill in the blanks in the activity. - Pair: Students work in pairs with different gaps in their passages. - Dictogloss: Students hear a sentence once and have to write the gist of that sentence. - Prediction: Students predict what should be in the sentence blank and then check to see if their prediction was correct. Synopsis Dictations for Discussion by : Catherine Sadow
Dictations for Discussion is an intermediate-to-advanced-level text intended to improve the listening and speaking skills of ESL students. Reading and writing are also reinforced, along with progress in vocabulary and grammar. This text provides a wide variety of dictations, from authentic materials that include provocative news items, problems to solve, and decisions to make. The units are designed to stand alone so that teachers can pick and choose which dictations meet the needs, interests, and levels of their students. Each unit begins with a short introduction that provides a background and context for the dictation. The central focus of the unit is a dictation activity followed by a discussion section. The discussions can take place in pairs or small groups. The unit ends with a follow-up activity which is intended to explore the topic further through writing, research, and speaking activities. This text includes several cooperative learning activities. The strategy in this book is similar to Basic Dictations, also by De Filippo and Sadow, although this book is for more advanced students. It also has five types of dictations rather than the four found in the Basic Dictations book.p> The five types of dictations are: - Partial/Cloze Dictations - Pair Dictations - Dictogloss Dictations - Prediction Dictations - Note Taking Dictations An (optional) audio program is available for download. Synopsis Operative Dictations in General and Vascular Surgery by : Jamal J. Hoballah
This text is a fully updated and revised third edition of a highly successful text. The format of this text is unique and has been very successful. A total of 286 short chapters organized into 24 Sections provide operative dictation templates for all of the common and the vast majority of the uncommon and even rare operations performed by general and vascular surgeons. Each chapter also provides a succinct synopsis of the operation through bullet-ed lists which include Indications, Essential Steps, Note these Variations, and Complications. The book thus serves two purposes: these operative dictation templates can be used verbatim when dictating the operative note for a procedure; and the book provides ready reference to the trainee going into the operating room to do the procedure for the first time, or to someone preparing for their Board examinations. Space for notes allows surgeons to personalize the book and turn it into a resource unique to their situation. Fully updated and expanded, Operative Dictations in General and Vascular Surgery, Third Edition includes significant additions that include flexible endoscopic procedures (now recognized as a core part of general surgery training and practice), single incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy, and robotic approaches to the rectum. The endovascular procedures have been significantly expanded, as have the approaches to venous disease and to A-V fistula creation. Operative Dictations in General and Vascular Surgery, Third Edition is intended for practicing surgeons, who may modify each template to reflect their own individual practice. It also serves as a concise reminder of essential steps in those operations that may be only rarely performed.
