Synopsis Select Thermodynamic Models for Process Simulation by : Jean-Charles de Hemptinne

The selection of the most adequate thermodynamic model in a process simulation is an issue that most process engineer has to face sooner or later. This book, conceived as a practical guide, aims at providing adequate answers by analysing the questions to be looked at. The analysis (first chapter) yields three keys that are further discussed in three different chapters. (1) A good understanding of the properties required in the process, and their method of calculation is the first key. The second chapter provides to that end in a synthetic manner the most important equations that are derived from the fundamental principes of thermodynamics. (2) An adequate description of the mixture, which is a combination of models and parameters, is the second key. The third chapter makes the link between components and models, both from a numerical (parameterisation) and physical (molecular interactions) point of view. Finally, (3) a correct view of the phase behaviour and trends in regard of the process conditions is the third key. The fourth chapter illustrates the phase behaviour and makes model recommendations for the most significant industrial systems. A decision tree is provided at the end of this chapter. In the last chapter, the key questions are reviewed for a number of typical processes. This book is intended for process engineers, who are not specialists of thermodynamics but are confronted with this kind of problems and need a reference book, as well as process engineering students who will find an original approach to thermodynamics, complementary of traditional lectures

Synopsis Transverse Disciplines in Metrology by : French College of Metrology

Based on The International Metrology Congress meeting, this reference examines the evolution of metrology, and its applications in industry, environment and safety, health and medicine, economy and quality, and new information and communication technologies; details the improvement of measurement procedures to guarantee the quality of products and processes; and discusses the development of metrology linked to innovating technologies. The themes of the Congress (quality and reliability of measurement, measurement uncertainties, calibration, verification, accreditation, sensory metrology, regulations and legal metrology) are developed either in a general way or applied to a specific economic sector or to a specific scientific field.

Synopsis Flow Measurement Handbook by : Roger C. Baker

Flow Measurement Handbook is a reference for engineers on flow measurement techniques and instruments. It strikes a balance between laboratory ideas and the realities of field experience and provides practical advice on design, operation and performance of flowmeters. It begins with a review of essentials: accuracy, flow, selection and calibration methods. Each chapter is then devoted to a flowmeter class and includes information on design, application installation, calibration and operation. Among the flowmeters discussed are differential pressure devices such as orifice and Venturi, volumetric flowmeters such as positive displacement, turbine, vortex, electromagnetic, magnetic resonance, ultrasonic, acoustic, multiphase flowmeters and mass meters, such as thermal and Coriolis. There are also chapters on probes, verification and remote data access.

Synopsis Liver Cancer Awareness Month 2023: Current Progress and Future Prospects on Advances in Primary Liver Cancer Investigation and Treatment by : Francisco Tustumi

October is the Liver Cancer Awareness Month and at Frontiers in Oncology we want to highlight the recent discoveries in the field and raise awareness of the importance of early diagnosis, multidisciplinary management, and technological innovation support. Primary liver cancer represents a significant global health challenge, with its incidence steadily rising and posing substantial morbidity and mortality rates. This research topic in Frontiers in Oncology focuses on the latest advancements in the investigation and treatment of primary liver cancer, addressing hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and cholangiocarcinoma to provide insights into cutting-edge approaches to shaping the field and improving patient outcomes
