Synopsis Deep Excavation by : Chang-Yu Ou
With continued economic development and increasing urbanization, excavations go deeper and become larger in scale, and are sometimes even carried out in difficult soils. These conditions require advanced analysis and design methods and construction technologies. Most books on general foundation engineering introduce the basic analysis and design of excavation, but do not delve into practical considerations. This book examines both theory and practice, from basic to advanced, and discusses the major methods currently in practice around the world. Each chapter also includes problems and their solutions to develop a practical, real-world understanding.

Synopsis Fundamentals of Deep Excavations by : Chang-Yu Ou
Excavation is an important segment of foundation engineering (e.g., in the construction of the foundations or basements of high-rise buildings, underground oil tanks, or subways). However, the excavation knowledge introduced in most books on foundation engineering is too simple to handle actual excavation analysis and design. Moreover, with economic development and urbanization, excavations go deeper and are larger in scale. These conditions require elaborate analysis, design methods and construction technologies. This book is aimed at both theoretical explication and practical application. From basic to advanced, this book attempts to achieve theoretical rigor and consistency. Each chapter is followed by a problem set so that the book can be readily taught at senior undergraduate and graduate levels. The solution to the problems at the end of the chapters can be found on the website (http://www.ct.ntust.edu.tw/ou/). On the other hand, the analysis methods introduced in the book can be used in actual analysis and design as they contain the most up-to-date knowledge. Therefore, this book is suitable for teachers who teach foundation engineering and/or deep excavation courses and engineers who are engaged in excavation analysis and design.

Synopsis Deep Excavations by : Malcolm Puller
&Quot; This book assembles the practical rules and details for the efficient and economical execution of deep excavations. It draws together a wealth of experience of both design and construction from published work and the lifetime practice of the author. This second edition is extensively revised to include changes in design emphasis including those due to Eurocode 7 and descriptions of the latest equipment, construction techniques and geotechnical processes. Additional details include those of the latest piling and diaphragm wall equipment and innovations in top-down construction applied to basements and cut-and-cover works. The section on caissons has been expanded to include design methods."--BOOK JACKET.

Synopsis Design of Deep Braced Excavation and Earth Retaining Systems Under Complex Built Environment by : Wengang Zhang
This book presents basic design theories and principles and provides detailed analysis for excavation failure cases based on the author's research experience, aiming to provide a comprehensive picture of the subject matter. It focuses on the basal heave stability analysis, the apparent earth pressure as well as the strut force determination, the retaining wall deflection, the ground settlement, the protection measures such as jet grouting slabs or piles, case reports, back analysis methodology. From the very basic to the most advanced, it tries to attain theoretical rigorousness and consistency. On the other hand, this book also tries to cope with design practice, implemented by the recent publications from the authors. Students, researchers, and design engineers working in the field of civil engineering could benefit from this book.

Synopsis Design of Deep Braced Excavation in Urban Geotechnical Environments by : Wengang Zhang
Design of Deep Braced Excavation in Urban Geotechnical Environments presents the design and calculation of deep braced excavation in urban geotechnical environments considering the soil characteristics of spatial variability and anisotropy, as well as excavation responses of urban adjacent utilities such as pipelines, tunnels, foundation piles and buildings. With economic development and further urbanization, excavation goes deeper, longer, and larger in scale. These conditions require advanced analysis and design methods. The text begins with coverage of overall stability, earth pressure and strut force, retaining wall responses, and ground movements. Numerical modeling and computer codes are outlined in detail. The authors then take a close look at the design of jet grouting for deformation control, instrumentation and back analysis for excavation, and the characteristics of deep braced excavation in complex geological environment. The final chapters conclude with an examination of the determination of excavation responses of urban adjacent utilities and failure analysis based on several case histories. This book provides the latest knowledge in both theory and practical application for geotechnical design engineers working on deep excavation problems. - Presents the latest theory and knowledge surrounding deep braced excavations - Systematically outlines theory, field reports, calculations, and back analysis, making it much easier to master the work relevant with deep braced excavations - Provides detailed visual elements and hyperlinks to additional images and video for case excavations to enhance understanding

Synopsis Excavation Scheme for a Deep Wagon Tippler at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, Bombay by : Thoralf Schlüter
Inhaltsangabe:Introduction: The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, called JNPT, is situated close to Mumbai (former name Bombay) at the same channel used by Mumbai Port and Jawahar Dweep Oil Terminal. It is the youngest and most modern port of India. Commissioned in May 1989, the port still has high development ambitions especially in the sector of expansion, which is necessary in view of its purpose of decongesting Mumbai Port and the serving as a Hub Port for this region. The new Nhava Sheva Container Terminal Project is an example for the continuous progress in realising these plans. In carrying out of these plans, structures like deep wagon tippler are required for managing bulk cargoes at the bulk terminals. This type of structure allows an economical unloading of cargoes from trains. Because of the necessary depth of a wagon tippler the cargoes have to surmount a difference in altitude of about 12 m from ground level and additional the difference in altitude from ground level up to the vessel. This can only be done by using long conveyor tunnels. An elevation of the cross section for a typical deep wagon tippler, borrowed from an existing structure. In the first part of this project work, a review on different, often used schemes, for deep excavations is done to find out a favourable excavation scheme for construction of a deep wagon tippler. The choice for a structure using RCC diaphragm walls as retaining walls is based on its merits under the existing soil conditions and on a possible serving as part of the final structure. During a site visit to JNPT the decision for this type of excavation scheme was discussed with site engineers, who have experience in constructing RCC diaphragm walls under existing soil and groundwater conditions. Finally an analysis of a typical cross section of the deep wagon tippler has been carried out by using the structural engineering software STAAD III, based on the Finite Element Method. The safety of the structure against failure caused on external and internal loads is proofed as well as for the case of an earthquake, which will be very possible, because of the location of the site in the earthquake zone four. SUMMARY: The aim of this project work was to work out an excavation scheme for the construction of a deep wagon tippler at JNPT Mumbai under actual loading condition. For solving this problem, first a comparison of different schemes for deep excavations was done. The final choice of using diaphragm [...]

Synopsis Deformation and Failure Mechanism of Excavation in Clay Subjected to Hydraulic Uplift by : Yi Hong
This book presents the latest experimental and numerical analysis work in the field of ground deformation and base instability of deep excavations in soft clay subjected to hydraulic uplift. The authors’ latest research findings, based on dimensional analyses, well-instrumented full-scale field tests, systematic coupled-consolidation finite element analyses and centrifuge tests are reported. This book shows how to systematically approach a complex geotechnical problem, from identifying existing problems, reviewing literature, to dimensional and numerical analyses, validation through full-scale testing and centrifuge model testing. The methodologies are also introduced as major tools adopted in geotechnical research.
