This historic book may have numerous typos and missing text. Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1922 edition. Excerpt: ... Chapter xii. 75. Attachments, Bankruptcy and Liens. 76. Report. 77. The Passing of Papers. 78. Taxes and Other Municipal Liens. 79. Final Search. 75. Attachments, Bankruptcy And Liens. Upon completion of the abstract it becomes necessary to make a search for attachments, bankruptcies and liens. For this purpose I make up a list of all the persons who have owned locus or any part thereof during the period covered by the examination in the manner following. In the "Bankruptcy" column a check will be made against the names of those persons who were out of the title before 1898, the year in which the Federal Bankruptcy Act came into effect, to indicate that it is unnecessary to examine the bankruptcy index under those names, and a similar check in the "Lien" column against the names of those persons who parted with title prior to January 1, 1916. If the list so made up includes successive owners of an equity of redemption which is finally cut off by foreclosure of a prior mortgage, and no doubt exists as to the validity of such foreclosure, then of course such owners may be checked off and ignored in this search. After the list of owners is prepared as above, check over the schedule sheets in order to determine that the...
