Synopsis The Karjill by : Gary Kirby
Time and tide sometimes clash into chaos, sometimes swell together into a moonlit sea of tranquility, and sometimes, very rare times, time and tide meet at the perfect angle of chaos and calm. This was such a time. And on such a tide, in the young of the year when the earth was still fresh and green, a small clump of seaweed washed ashore. A little karjill found a pearl inside that became his destiny and his journey. The dark waves reached for him, almost like the lips of a lover promising him peace, comfort, the end of his motion. He drifted into them. The light dimmed. The blackness grew. The folds of repulsive flesh coiled around him. He had failed. The waves crashed against the sacred walls. They lashed against the dome, tore into Flat Rock which shuddered, then split and was sucked into the sea. All natural laws broke as the waves refused to be held in by the land. Mountains were ripped out by their roots and the wind drilled holes into the sea floor. He was hurtling into a chaos of dark and glistening beauty, a bursting clash of light and sound .

Synopsis Into the Heart of Reality by : Safiullah
Into the Heart of Reality, a series of spiritual reflections on God, nature, psychology and Islam, is written with suppleness, tenderness and intelligence. Author Safiullahs poetic prose challenges us to look closely at the world we know the world of sensation and emotion, the world of mistrust and infidelity-and go beyond it; to open our minds and souls to a new understanding of this temporal world. Blue Ink Review Widely traveled debut author Safiullah aims to strike a life-changing chord about the true nature of reality. He attempts this through a series of brief commentaries on spiritual topics that counsel against pride, ingratitude, materialism, spiritual forgetfulness, a wagging tongue and pointless mental ruminations. He often assumes the role of teacher, dutifully backing up his assertions in commentaries that make specific reference to verses the sacred scriptures and to the teachings of the Prophet. Kirkus Reviews Reading Into the Heart of Reality as a tool for prayer and reflection would work beautifully for those who enjoy using books for daily inspiration. All of the entries can stand alone; a reader can open the book to a random page and be assured of finding something meaningful to ponder. Safiullah writes like a poet dabbling in prose; when it fails, the deeper truth still shines, and when it works, it transcends. ForeWord Reviews, Clarion Review

Synopsis Indian Sculpture by : Stella Kramrisch
Anyone with an understanding of art in general and a knowledge, however slight, of Indian things, will, on being shown a work of Indian sculpture, unfailingly label it Indian. Differences in age and origin, however clearly marked to the discerning eye, when pointed out to the outsider, will be apprehended only with more or less difficulty. There is something so strong, and at the same time unique, in any Indian work of art that its 'Indianness' is felt first of all, and what it is, is seen only on second thought. How this Indianness is expressed in terms of the relationship between line, surface, volume and other elements of visualisation is dealt with in this book. There are permanent qualities throughout the fabric of Indian sculpture which are discussed in detail. These essential qualities, all interrelated and inseparable, contain within their compass the life of Indian plastic art. The book surveys the structure of Indian sculpture in its relevant aspects. The underlying and essential qualities are viewed in their permanency throughout the special conditions that the single monuments imply. Their outward connections, geographical and chronological, are seen to resolve themselves into ethical problems and those of the artistic process itself. While stylistic investigations are the basis of this book, Indian sculpture is dealt with as conditioned by the Indian craftsman. His consciousness makes him known to himself as a part of nature and his work in the form of this 'naturalism'. Its degree and aspects vary according to the levels of his consciousness.
