Synopsis Cosmetic Microbiology by : Philip A. Geis
Cosmetics are unique products, as diverse as foods and drugs, but without the imposed limits of shelf-life considerations and sterile manufacturing. Furthermore, unlike foods and drugs, the cosmetic industry lacks the support of established academic programs or a significant body of publication; instead, its knowledge base has always fallen under t

Synopsis Cosmetic Microbiology by : Daniel K. Brannan
Until now, information on cosmetic microbiology was scattered and mostly consisted of oral tradition passed on from mentors to apprentices. Finally, here is an understandable and easy-to-read guide documenting cosmetic microbiology practices. Cosmetic Microbiology: A Practical Handbook contains technical information on sanitation and the preservation of cosmetics for microbiologists as well as for process engineers, plant managers, and workers. The book provides the knowledge needed to create safe and usable cosmetic products. All aspects of cosmetic microbiology are covered, including testing methods, preservation, toxicology, and regulatory concerns.

Synopsis Public Health Microbiology by : John F. T. Spencer
Public Health Microbiology: Methods and Protocols is focused on microorganisms that can present a hazard to human health in the course of everyday life. There are chapters dealing with organisms that are directly pathogenic to humans, including bacteria, viruses, and fungi; on organisms that produce toxins during growth in their natural habitats; on the use of bacteriocins produced by such organisms as lactobacilli and bifidobacteria; as well as several chapters on hazard analysis, the use of disinfectants, microbiological analysis of cosmetics, and microbiological tests for sanitation equipment in food factories. Additional chapters look at the use of animals (mice) in the study of the various characteristics of milk and their relationships with lactic acid bacteria in particular. Other chapters focus on special methods for determining particular components of milk. In particular, in Parts I and II, on bacterial and viral pathogens, special attention is given to methods for PCR detection of genes with resistance to tetracycline, as well as to Salmonella enterica; for identification and typing of Campylobacter coli; for detection of the abundance of enteric viruses, hepatitis A virus, and rotaviruses in sewage, and of bacteriophages infecting the O157:H7 strain of Escherichia coli. Part III offers methods for computerized analysis and typing of fungal isolates, for isolation and enumeration of fungi in foods, and for the determination of aflatoxin and zearalenone.

Synopsis An Introduction to Cosmetic Microbiology by : Donald S. Orth
Within the field of cosmetic science, cosmetic microbiology is a dynamic discipline which is growing to meet the needs of scientists in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. Cosmetic microbiology was, in its first 50 years, primarily concerned with the microbiological asepcts of plant sanitation, determining aerobic plate counts of finished products, and preservative efficacy testing.

Synopsis Microbial Quality Assurance in Pharmaceuticals, Cosmetics, and Toiletries by : R. Baird
The importance of quality assurance in the production, storage and use of manufactured preparations is widely recognized. This book encapsulates the issues involved in the manufacture of non-steriles, such as creams, ointments, herbal remedies, shampoos, soaps and toiletry products (as opposed to sterile drugs and injectible products). Knowledge of the microbial limits is expanded, new standards are included, and coverage of the preservation issues of dosage forms is widened to include semi-solids and liquid preparations. This edition also contains new regulations regarding preservative efficacy testing and covers pharmacopoeial and industry regulations and guidelines. Rapid methods are also discussed, now more common in cosmetic and toiletry practice, in their pharmaceutical capacity.
