Synopsis Correlations And Fluctuations In Qcd, Proceedings Of The 10th International Workshop On Multiparticle Production by : Christos N Ktorides

This book contains a wide spectrum of articles which report the current research progress in topics concerning the dynamics of multiparticle production in high energy collision processes, with emphasis on nonperturbative aspects of QCD. The topics covered are: the phase diagram of QCD and related transitions; correlations and fluctuations in a variety of experiments involving multiparticle production (e+e- annihilation, pp collisions and heavy ion collisions); recent theoretical and experimental developments in interferometry and particle correlations; event-by-event fluctuations in high energy experiments; concepts of chaos and complexity in multiparticle dynamics and related phenomenology; relevant theoretical ideas based on QCD as a field theory.

Synopsis Correlations and Fluctuations '98 by : T. Csörgő

In this volume, recent results are reported on the analysis of fluctuations and correlations in all types of high energy reactions, from lepton-lepton to nucleus-nucleus collisions. The contributions range from theoretical analysis of QCD cascades and branching processes including a prediction of a helix structure of QCD strings to the analysis of Bose-Einstein correlation data in the NA22, NA44, NA49, WA93 and WA98 experiments at CERN SPS, allowing for the first time a complete reconstruction of the longitudinally expanding tubelike particle sources in these reactions. The nature and origin of dynamical fluctuations are exposed in great detail from QCD jets to disoriented chiral condensates and phase transition phenomena. Contributions to two special sessions are dedicated to the memory of Peter Carruthers and Vladimir N Gribov, two giants of multiparticle phenomena.

Synopsis Introduction to Nonextensive Statistical Mechanics by : Constantino Tsallis

This book focuses on nonextensive statistical mechanics, a current generalization of Boltzmann-Gibbs (BG) statistical mechanics. Conceived nearly 150 years ago by Maxwell, Boltzmann and Gibbs, the BG theory, one of the greatest monuments of contemporary physics, exhibits many impressive successes in physics, chemistry, mathematics, and computational sciences. Presently, several thousands of publications by scientists around the world have been dedicated to its nonextensive generalization. A variety of applications have emerged in complex systems and its mathematical grounding is by now well advanced. Since the first edition release thirteen years ago, there has been a vast amount of new results in the field, all of which have been incorporated in this comprehensive second edition. Heavily revised and updated with new sections and figures, the second edition remains the go-to text on the subject. A pedagogical introduction to the BG theory concepts and their generalizations – nonlinear dynamics, extensivity of the nonadditive entropy, global correlations, generalization of the standard CLT’s, complex networks, among others – is presented in this book, as well as a selection of paradigmatic applications in various sciences together with diversified experimental verifications of some of its predictions. Introduction to Nonextensive Statistical Mechanics is suitable for students and researchers with an interest in complex systems and statistical physics.

Synopsis Proceedings of the 31st International Conference on High Energy Physics ICHEP 2002 by : S. Bentvelsen

The first precision measurements on CP violation in the B system are reported. Both the BELLE and the BABAR collaboration presented, among others, results for sin 2ß with much improved accuracy. Results from the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory, SNO, also deserve to be mentioned. The convincing evidence of solar neutrino oscillations had been presented by SNO prior to the conference; a full presentation was given at the conference. An incredibly precise measurement of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon is reported, a fresh result from the Brookhaven National Laboratory. Apart from these distinct physics highlights, there are also the first results from the new Tevatron run and from the relativistic heavy ion collider RHIC. Theorists write of our ever better understanding of the Standard Model and of what might lie beyond. Risky as it is to highlight only a couple of exciting subjects, it is merely meantto whet the appetite for further reading.
