Synopsis Control Tower Business in Logistic Services by : Hannu Ojasalo
This book explores the Control Tower cloud service solution, highlighting the deep and broad insight it offers into the supply chain. For it to succeed, a Control Tower software-as-a-service company needs the same foundation as any other company: a solid strategy and a business plan to execute that strategy. Therefore, this book also presents the strategies and operational business plans of Control Tower business solutions. In short, the book’s central themes are the Control Tower solution, and the exploration and testing of alternatives for strategies and business plans, i.e. simulation; without simulation, strategies and business plans are based on single-minded thinking, and will fail.

Synopsis Logistics Clusters by : Yossi Sheffi
How logistics clusters can create jobs while providing companies with competitive advantage. Why is Memphis home to hundreds of motor carrier terminals and distribution centers? Why does the tiny island-nation of Singapore handle a fifth of the world's maritime containers and half the world's annual supply of crude oil? Which jobs can replace lost manufacturing jobs in advanced economies? Some of the answers to these questions are rooted in the phenomenon of logistics clusters—geographically concentrated sets of logistics-related business activities. In this book, supply chain management expert Yossi Sheffi explains why Memphis, Singapore, Chicago, Rotterdam, Los Angeles, and scores of other locations have been successful in developing such clusters while others have not. Sheffi outlines the characteristic “positive feedback loop” of logistics clusters development and what differentiates them from other industrial clusters; how logistics clusters “add value” by generating other industrial activities; why firms should locate their distribution and value-added activities in logistics clusters; and the proper role of government support, in the form of investment, regulation, and trade policy. Sheffi also argues for the most important advantage offered by logistics clusters in today's recession-plagued economy: jobs, many of them open to low-skilled workers, that are concentrated locally and not “offshorable.” These logistics clusters offer what is rare in today's economy: authentic success stories. For this reason, numerous regional and central governments as well as scores of real estate developers are investing in the development of such clusters. Synopsis A Circular Economy Handbook for Business and Supply Chains by : Catherine Weetman
WINNER: Les Plumes des Achats 2018 - Committee Special Prize A Circular Economy Handbook for Business and Supply Chains is an easily digestible and comprehensive handbook that provides a clear guide to the circular economy, helping the reader create future-fit, sustainable strategies. Real examples across a range of market sectors help businesses, students and policymakers understand the theory and fast-developing practice of the circular economy. To help the reader generate ideas, A Circular Economy Handbook for Business and Supply Chains provides a holistic framework for the design and supply chain and supporting business models, and includes tools the reader can use to get started. Whilst growing global consumption presents fantastic business opportunities, our current linear systems (take some materials, make a product, use it and then throw it away) are not fit for purpose. The circular economy unlocks this problem by decoupling resources from consumption. Engaged businesses are re-thinking product design, material choices, business models and supply chains. A Circular Economy Handbook for Business and Supply Chains is a must-read for anyone who wants to apply the circular economy today. Online resources now available: PowerPoint slides of figures and tables from every chapter created by the author.
