Leo Wiener argues that Germanic languages have arisen by a sudden influx of Low Latin, and Arabic. He demonstrates that they arose from the Graeco-Latin glossaries through Gothic interpretations, which themselves owe their origin to the Graeco-Arabic learning of Spain.
