Many attempts have been made in recent decades by liberal market economies to reconstruct public workplace conflict resolution agencies in response to major changes in patterns of workplace conflict. These have often been hampered or stymied by political schisms, stalemate or inertia. The radical reconstruction of conflict resolution in Ireland marks out a major exception to the international pattern and represents a case of successful adaptation and innovation in conflict resolution services and supports. Drawing on detailed primary research, and aimed at scholars, policy makers, professionals and students, this book examines the drivers of innovation in the Irish case and shows how the new state agency for workplace conflict resolution, the Workplace Relations Commission, operates and maintains the confidence of employers, unions, people at work and government. The Irish case is considered in comparative context, and current strategic challenges facing the Workplace Relations Commission are assessed.

We present a non-technical assessment of the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on individual level conflict behavior in the household, workplace, and societal interactions in the post-COVID era. We predict that there will be an increase in the intra-household conflict including domestic violence; and the divorce rate will rise. Within workplaces, the pandemic will result both in a higher level of sabotage among the employees, and employee retaliation towards the employer. The pandemic may also affect the diversity and inclusiveness within an organization adversely. In societal interactions, an increase in the identity related conflicts, especially related to the immigration status can be observed. It is also likely that there will be an increase in the attack and defense or victimization activities in the society. We conclude by proposing various measures for conflict resolution, and a few possible areas of further investigations.

How have the arrangements in European countries regarding the functioning of justice changed in the period of the COVID-19 pandemic? Will the solutions implemented in various countries in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic last and find their place in the legal systems of these countries for a longer period of time?
