Synopsis Comparative Analysis of ICT in Education Between China and Central and Eastern European Countries by : Dejian Liu

This book presents the status quo of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Education, with a focus on China and the 17 Central and Eastern European Countries (CEECs), including Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia (the “17+1” cooperation mechanism, as an incubator for pragmatic trans-regions cooperation platform, created by China and the 17 CEECs). With recent advances in ICT in China and the CEECs, it has assumed increasingly important roles in education, including the improvement of the quality of teaching and learning, as well as the promotion of equity in education. The significant contribution of ICT in education is an enabler to achieving the goals of the “17+1 cooperation” mechanism between China and the CEECs, which has attracted considerable attention worldwide, given fresh impetus to cooperation between the two parties, and opened a new chapter in China-CEEC cooperation. The contributors, all of whom hail from these 18 countries, describe the state-of-the-art of ICT in education in their respective country, and focus on three major aspects, namely: the country profile, general status of education development, and ICT in education. In turn, leading experts in educational informatization research compare the situations in different countries. Taken together, the papers offer valuable insights for policymakers and educators on how to integrate ICT into educational processes, and on inter-regional cooperation with regard to ICT in education.

Synopsis The Palgrave Handbook of Teacher Education in Central and Eastern Europe by : Marta Kowalczuk-Walędziak

This handbook provides a comprehensive, scholarly overview of teacher education in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), since the fall of communism in 1989. It looks closely at recent trends, emerging practices, and possible futures for teacher education in twenty-one CEE countries – reaching from the Balkans, through the Visegrad Group, to Eastern Europe and the Baltics. The contributing authors reflect on their own countries’ uphill battles and journeys towards modernising teacher education over the last three decades. Subsequently, contemporary teacher education policies, structures, and practices are explored in light of Bologna reforms, EU higher education policies, and globalisation processes. Each chapter also offers some predictions about likely future trajectories – with concrete suggestions on how to develop and improve teacher education systems in response to the growing pressures of neoliberal ideologies. The Palgrave Handbook of Teacher Education in Central and Eastern Europe provides a valuable reference that enriches the work of scholars, students, policymakers, and practitioners across CEE and beyond.

Despite the increased adoption of digital education materials during the pandemic, there is a persistent issue of educational inequity and exclusion, especially for students in rural areas and those with diverse disabilities. Digital technologies have the potential to expand and liberate education, but their inconsistent history raises questions about their effectiveness in addressing these challenges. Implementing Inclusive Educational Models and Technologies for Equity and Diversity offers a comprehensive and timely reference source that aims to provide an opportunity for reflection on the crucial issue of inclusion and equity in the context of educational improvements. This research book provides relevant academic work, empirical research findings, and an overview of this relevant field of study. It also covers recommended topics such as mobile and blended learning, teaching, and learning strategies, technological concerns, and ethical and sociological concerns such as accessibility for users with diverse disabilities and addressing individual differences. By providing a platform for research opportunities and increasing understanding of inclusion and equity in education, the book can contribute to the development of effective strategies and tactics to create inclusive educational environments that leverage digital technologies.
