Synopsis Colin's Shorts - Volume 2 by : Colin Owen

Colin's Shorts volume 2, is my second collection of 30 short stories with something for everyone. This again, is a very varied mix from ghost stories to mysteries to sci-fi to horror! But there is some comedy too. These stories are all new and were written over a period of about four months. Once again, I enjoyed the challenge of writing, what seems to me, to be a fair number of short stories to make up a decent sized collection. Finally, as always, I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoyed writing them.

Synopsis Ghosts Inc. Ghostly Shorts, Vol. 2 by : Bethany M. Sefchick

For the first time, the second set of six “Ghosts, Inc. Ghostly Shorts,” which are short stories meant to enhance the GI novels, are available in a single, comprehensive collection for your reading enjoyment. Designed to expand the rich world of “Ghosts, Inc.,” these short stories can be read and enjoyed independently of the novels. This collection of short stories takes place in the time between the second novel, "Heart of Shadows " and the third "Spellbound," and tell stories that, while not long enough for their own full-length novel, are every bit as intriguing and romantic, while delving in to the heart of the paranormal world. Get to know Victoria Morgan, otherwise known as “The Diamond Girl," and Colin Somersby, the Duke of Avelion, who also just happens to be the man Tori has loved all of her life in “Diamond Girl.” Can Tori rid Colin's Boston home of the ghost that has been haunting it for years and secure the mystical box she's been sent to bargain for, all while finally allowing herself to admit that there's no other man for her except Colin? Meet murdered Gilded Age heir Benjamin Westmore in “You Don't Know Me,” as he nurses fellow ghost Bridget Austin back to health - relatively speaking, of course, since she is dead. While living together at Windswept, his family's Newport, Rhode Island, mansion, can Benjamin help Bridget discover her place in their shared ghostly world before she crosses over to the "other side" forever? In “Where My Heart Will Take Me,” meet Anastasia, a one-time European princess now trapped in a hideous monster's body. Can GI investigator Noah Callahan see past her beastly form to the beauty within and find a way to free her from the curse that has haunted her for centuries? Brave the world of Ryan Frost, a Dark Reaper in search of injured souls in “Cold As Ice” as he attempts to rescue Russian immigrant Tatiana Belkov from the clutches of a madman intent on using Ana's talents for his own personal gain. Can Ryan save Ana before she succumbs to the madness or is the woman Ryan is destined to love already so lost inside of her own mind that there's no bringing her back? Feel the pull of love across time in “Lovers In A Dangerous Time,” as executed American Revolutionary War spy, Ethan Cole, rides to the rescue of Philadelphia historical site docent Natalie Baldwin. Can Ethan find a way back from beyond the grave with the help of the ever-expanding GI staff, or are he and Natalie doomed to be lovers out of time forever? Finally, join Cryptozoologist Abby Delinski and New Avalon police officer Matthew Duquesne as they search an abandoned steel mill in western Pennsylvania for the infamous mothmen, and maybe find love as well, in “Promises In The Dark.”

Synopsis Short Shorts Volume 2 by : Michael Yates

Three one-act plays by Michael Yates. A REAL CUSHY NUMBER: It's the night shift at a major hospital and the porters sip their hot tea and talk about life as they wait for a patient to die. ALL GOOD MEN: Party conference time - and the sudden death of the prime minister triggers a power struggle as young speech-writer Simon goes to war with ambitious minister Darius and sexy, ruthless power-broker Lady Bridgewater. LUVVIES: A failed playwright and a bit-part actress invite a young couple home for heavy drinking and ritual humiliation - but the tables could be turned! "Clever, well-written. The punchy, bitchy dialogue is great fun with an undercurrent of tragedy. It kept me hooked," said the Write Now Liverpool Drama Festival judge.

Synopsis Babylon, Volume 2 (of 3) by : Grant Allen

Example in this ebook CHAPTER XV. A DOOR OPENS Another year had passed, and Colin, now of full age, had tired of working for Cicolari. It was all very well, this moulding clay and carving replicas of afflicted widows; it was all very well, this modelling busts and statuettes and little classical compositions; it was all very well, this picking up stray hints in a half-amateur fashion from the grand torsos of the British Museum and a few scattered Thorwaldsens or antiques of the great country houses; but Colin Churchill felt in his heart of hearts that all that was not sculpture. He was growing in years now, and instead of learning he was really working. Still, he had quite made up his mind that some day or other he should look with his own eyes on the glories of the Vatican and the Villa Albani. Nay, he had even begun to take lessons in Italian from Cicolari—counting his chickens before they were hatched, Minna said—so that he might not feel himself at a loss whenever the great and final day of his redemption should happen to arrive. The dream of his life was to go to Rome, and study in a real studio, and become a regular genuine sculptor. Nothing short of that would ever satisfy him, he told Minna: and Minna, though she trembled to think of Colin's going so far away from her—among all those black-eyed Italian women, too—(and Colin had often told her he admired black eyes, like hers, above all others)—poor little Minna could not but admit sorrowfully to herself that Rome was after all the proper school for Colin Churchill. 'The capital of art,' he repeated to her, over and over again; must it not be the right place for him, who she felt sure was going to be the greatest of all modern English artists? But how was Colin ever to get there? Going to Rome costs money; and during all these years Colin had barely been able to save enough to buy the necessary books and materials for his self-education. The more deeply he felt the desire to go, the more utterly remote did the chance of going seem to become to him. 'And yet I shall go, Minna,' he said to her almost fiercely one September evening. 'Go to Rome I will, if I have to tramp every step of the way on foot, and reach there barefoot. Minna sighed and the tears came into her eyes; but strong in her faith and pride in Colin, strong in her eager desire that Colin should give free play to his own genius, she answered firmly with a little quiver of her lips, 'You ought to go, Colin; and if you think it'd help you, you might take all that's left of my savings, and I'd go back again willingly to the parlour-maiding.' Colin looked at the pretty little pupil-teacher with a look of profound and unfeigned admiration. 'Minna,' he said, 'dear little woman, you're the best and kindest-hearted girl that ever breathed; but how on earth do you suppose I could possibly be wretch enough to take away your poor little savings? No, no, little woman, you must keep them for yourself, and use them for making yourself—I was going to say into a lady—but you couldn't do that, Minna, you couldn't do that, for you were born one already. Still, if you want me to be a real sculptor, I want you, little woman, just as much to be a real educated gentlewoman.' Colin said the last word with a certain lingering loving cadence, for it had a good old-fashioned ring about it that recommended it well to his simple straightforward peasant nature. 'Well, Colin,' Minna went on, blushing a bit (for that last quiet hint seemed half unintentionally to convey the impression that Colin really possessed a proprietary right in her whole future), 'we must try our best to find out some way for you to go to Rome at last in spite of everything. You know, meanwhile, you've got good employment, Colin, and that's always something.' To be continue in this ebook

Synopsis Colin McCahon: Is This the Promised Land? by : Peter Simpson

The second of an extraordinary two-volume work chronicling forty-five years of painting by our most important artist, Colin McCahon. Colin McCahon (1919–1987) was New Zealand's greatest twentieth-century artist. Through landscapes, biblical paintings, abstraction, and the introduction of words and Maori motifs, McCahon's work came to define a distinctly New Zealand modernist idiom. Collected and exhibited extensively in Australasia and Europe, McCahon's work has not been assessed as a whole for thirty-five years. In this richly illustrated two-volume work, written in an accessible style and published to coincide with the centenary of Colin McCahon's birth, leading McCahon scholar, writer, and curator Dr Peter Simpson chronicles the evolution of the artist's work over McCahon's entire forty-five-year career. Simpson has enjoyed unprecedented access to McCahon's extensive correspondence with friends, family, dealers, patrons, and others. This material enables us to begin to understand McCahon's work as the artist himself conceived it. Each volume includes over three-hundred illustrations in colour, with a generous selection of reproductions of McCahon's work (many never previously published), plus photographs, catalogue covers, facsimiles, and other illustrative material. These books will be the definitive work on New Zealand's leading artist for many years to come.
