Synopsis CMA/AMSI Research Symposium "Asymptotic Geometric Analysis, Harmonic Analysis, and Related Topics" by : Australian National University. Centre for Mathematics and Its Applications

This volume contains the proceedings of the CMA/AMSI Research Symposium on "Asymptotic Geometric Analysis, Harmonic Analysis and Related Topics'', organized by Andrew Hassell, Alan McIntosh, Shahar Mendelson, Pierre Portal, and Fyodor Sukochev at Murramarang (NSW) in February 2006. The meeting was sponsored by the Centre for Mathematics and its Applications (Australian National University) and the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute whose support is gratefully acknowledged. The Symposium covered a variety of topics in functional, geometric, and harmonic analysis, and brought together experts, early career researchers, and doctoral students from Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Israel, and the USA.

Synopsis Nigel J. Kalton Selecta by : Fritz Gesztesy

This book is the first part of a two volume anthology comprising a selection of 49 articles that illustrate the depth, breadth and scope of Nigel Kalton’s research. Each article is accompanied by comments from an expert on the respective topic, which serves to situate the article in its proper context, to successfully link past, present and hopefully future developments of the theory, and to help readers grasp the extent of Kalton’s accomplishments. Kalton’s work represents a bridge to the mathematics of tomorrow, and this book will help readers to cross it. Nigel Kalton (1946-2010) was an extraordinary mathematician who made major contributions to an amazingly diverse range of fields over the course of his career.

Synopsis Analysis in Banach Spaces by : Tuomas Hytönen

This second volume of Analysis in Banach Spaces, Probabilistic Methods and Operator Theory, is the successor to Volume I, Martingales and Littlewood-Paley Theory. It presents a thorough study of the fundamental randomisation techniques and the operator-theoretic aspects of the theory. The first two chapters address the relevant classical background from the theory of Banach spaces, including notions like type, cotype, K-convexity and contraction principles. In turn, the next two chapters provide a detailed treatment of the theory of R-boundedness and Banach space valued square functions developed over the last 20 years. In the last chapter, this content is applied to develop the holomorphic functional calculus of sectorial and bi-sectorial operators in Banach spaces. Given its breadth of coverage, this book will be an invaluable reference to graduate students and researchers interested in functional analysis, harmonic analysis, spectral theory, stochastic analysis, and the operator-theoretic approach to deterministic and stochastic evolution equations.

Synopsis Asymptotic Geometric Analysis by : Monika Ludwig

Asymptotic Geometric Analysis is concerned with the geometric and linear properties of finite dimensional objects, normed spaces, and convex bodies, especially with the asymptotics of their various quantitative parameters as the dimension tends to infinity. The deep geometric, probabilistic, and combinatorial methods developed here are used outside the field in many areas of mathematics and mathematical sciences. The Fields Institute Thematic Program in the Fall of 2010 continued an established tradition of previous large-scale programs devoted to the same general research direction. The main directions of the program included: * Asymptotic theory of convexity and normed spaces * Concentration of measure and isoperimetric inequalities, optimal transportation approach * Applications of the concept of concentration * Connections with transformation groups and Ramsey theory * Geometrization of probability * Random matrices * Connection with asymptotic combinatorics and complexity theory These directions are represented in this volume and reflect the present state of this important area of research. It will be of benefit to researchers working in a wide range of mathematical sciences—in particular functional analysis, combinatorics, convex geometry, dynamical systems, operator algebras, and computer science.

Synopsis Asymptotic Geometric Analysis, Part II by : Shiri Artstein-Avidan

This book is a continuation of Asymptotic Geometric Analysis, Part I, which was published as volume 202 in this series. Asymptotic geometric analysis studies properties of geometric objects, such as normed spaces, convex bodies, or convex functions, when the dimensions of these objects increase to infinity. The asymptotic approach reveals many very novel phenomena which influence other fields in mathematics, especially where a large data set is of main concern, or a number of parameters which becomes uncontrollably large. One of the important features of this new theory is in developing tools which allow studying high parametric families. Among the topics covered in the book are measure concentration, isoperimetric constants of log-concave measures, thin-shell estimates, stochastic localization, the geometry of Gaussian measures, volume inequalities for convex bodies, local theory of Banach spaces, type and cotype, the Banach-Mazur compactum, symmetrizations, restricted invertibility, and functional versions of geometric notions and inequalities.
