Synopsis Candy by : Luke Davies
There were good times and bad times, but in the beginning there were more good times. When I first met Candy those were the days of juice, when everything was bountiful. Only much later did it all start to seem like sugar and blood, blood and sugar...It's like you're cruising along in a beautiful car on a pleasant country road with the breeze in your hair and the smell of eucalyptus all around you. The horizon is always up there ahead, unfolding towards you, and at first you don't notice the gradual descent, or the way the atmosphere thickens. Bit by bit the gradient gets steeper, and before you realise you have no brakes, you're going pretty fucking fast.' Candy is a love story. It is also a novel about addiction. From the heady narcissism of the narrator's first days with his new lover, Candy, and the relative innocence of their shared habit, Candy charts their decline. Candy becomes a prostitute, the narrator becomes a scam artist, and smack becomes the total and only focus of their lives. But this is not just another junkie novel: Davies is a very fine writer and Candy is confronting, painful, sexy, tender and at times darkly hilarious. A remarkable novel.

Synopsis Candy by : Lawrence Block
Jeff Flanders has a perfectly good life. Until Candace Cain sashays into it and turns it upside-down. Jeff's got a good-looking wife; he loves her and she loves him. He's got a job, swinging a desk at a semi-shady finance company, signing off on usurious loans to losers; he doesn't love it and it doesn't love him, but it's easy work and it pays the bills. Until a girl called Candy applies for a $1000 loan--with no job, no bank account, no security. Nothing but a beautiful face, an awesome body, and all the nerve in the world. He lends her the money himself. That's a mistake. In return, she takes him to bed. That's a bigger one. All she wants in the world is someone who'll keep her in style. All he wants is more Candy. . . CANDY, first published in 1960, is a noir novel of sexual obsession.

Synopsis The Best of Ogden Nash by : Ogden Nash
More of Ogden Nash's poems have come to light, both in the voluminous Nash collection at the University of Texas at Austin, and in family letters and papers. So his daughters have once again produced The Best of Ogden Nash, the definitive Nash anthology. Some of these new poems reveal a darker side of the poet; others are full of fun. But all display the talent of the man whose verse entranced America--and a good part of the world--from the time of the Great Depression until his death in 1971. While earlier collections were organized chronologically, The Best is arranged by subject matter: the subjects of Nash's poems cannot always be identified by his titles, so fans of a particular poem will not have to search for it in vain.
