Synopsis Chronopharmaceutics by : Bi-Botti C. Youan

Chronopharmaceutics Science and Technology for Biological Rhythm Guided Therapy and Prevention of Diseases Edited by Bi-Botti C. Youan The first standard reference on chronopharmaceutics As we better understand how biological processes unfold in real time through advances in chronobiology and related fields, we can create safer, more effective drugs, drug delivery systems, and disease monitoring and prevention systems. When administered in correct coordination with a patient's body rhythms, such drugs can maximize therapeutic outcome while minimizing unwanted side effects. Chronopharmaceutics presents the first standard reference text on this emerging cross-disciplinary field and its potential for therapeutic and preventive medicine. Bringing together the latest findings from experienced investigators, this edited work presents a much-needed single source on chronopharmaceutics. After an introduction that includes a timeline of key discoveries, an overview of regula-tory, formulation, manufacturing and key resource issues associated with chronopharmaceutics, the detailed coverage examines: Chronogenetics Chronopharmacokinetics Chronotherapy Controlled release systems triggered by physical and/or chemical activation Chronopharmacodynamics, chronomics, and anesthesia Markers-guided chronotheranostics Filling a gap in both the graduate classroom and the working industrial or research laboratory, Chronopharmaceutics offers students, instructors, and professionals a unique and comprehensive reference for this cutting-edge field.

Annual Review of Chronopharmacology, Volume 2 presents a scholarly means of rapidly communicating findings and developments in chronopharmacology, which is considered a quickly emerging field. This text first discusses aspects and statistical procedures in chronobiology and chronopharmacology. This book then explains circadian and circannual changes in nephrotoxic effects of heavy metals and antibiotics; chronotoxicology and chronopharmacology with emphasis on carcinostatic agents; and chronopharmacology of cardiovascular medications. The chronopharmacology and chronotherapy of asthma are also tackled. This book concludes by explaining the chronopharmacology of antidepressant drugs and of the inflammatory process. This publication will be invaluable to those interested in the field of chronopharmacology.

Synopsis Chronotherapeutics by : P. H. Redfern

In nature, many physical processes are governed by the passage of time. The study of these processes - chronobiology - reveals rhythmic patterns which may be yearly, monthly, daily or more frequent. Novel drug delivery systems are currently being delivered that will release varying quantities of a drug at optimum times to coincide with these rhythmic patterns.Chronotherapeutics considers the pharmaceutical and therapeutic implications associated with biological clocks. The book presents a comprehensive discussion of specific diseases that are time dependent, and the drugs and new drug formulations that can be used as treatments.Written by leading international experts in the field, Chronotherapeutics provides up-to-date information on chronobiology for non-chronobiologists in pharmaceutical and medical sciences. Peter Redfern is Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Bath, UK.

Synopsis Chronopharmacology by : Björn Lemmer

Chronopharmacology is the study of time-dependent variations in the pharmacokinetics, effects, and side and toxic effects of drugs. After three chapters on basic aspects, the remaining 46 contributions cover various types of drugs and discuss the regulatory issues related to circadian mechanisms and the predictive aspects of the science. Synopsis Biologic Rhythms in Clinical and Laboratory Medicine by : Yvan Touitou

Everyone has heard of nature's "biological clocks", the phenomenon of periodic activity in plants, animals and humans. But what does chronobiology have to do with modern medicine? This book presents in a concise but comprehensive fashion the basic principles of chronobiology and their application to clinical medicine. The chapters are written by specialists in the field; they summarize the physiology, pathophysiology and pathology of the human time structure and outline the application of chronobiologic principles and techniques for diagnosis and treatment.

Synopsis Military Strategies for Sustainment of Nutrition and Immune Function in the Field by : Institute of Medicine

Every aspect of immune function and host defense is dependent upon a proper supply and balance of nutrients. Severe malnutrition can cause significant alteration in immune response, but even subclinical deficits may be associated with an impaired immune response, and an increased risk of infection. Infectious diseases have accounted for more off-duty days during major wars than combat wounds or nonbattle injuries. Combined stressors may reduce the normal ability of soldiers to resist pathogens, increase their susceptibility to biological warfare agents, and reduce the effectiveness of vaccines intended to protect them. There is also a concern with the inappropriate use of dietary supplements. This book, one of a series, examines the impact of various types of stressors and the role of specific dietary nutrients in maintaining immune function of military personnel in the field. It reviews the impact of compromised nutrition status on immune function; the interaction of health, exercise, and stress (both physical and psychological) in immune function; and the role of nutritional supplements and newer biotechnology methods reported to enhance immune function. The first part of the book contains the committee's workshop summary and evaluation of ongoing research by Army scientists on immune status in special forces troops, responses to the Army's questions, conclusions, and recommendations. The rest of the book contains papers contributed by workshop speakers, grouped under such broad topics as an introduction to what is known about immune function, the assessment of immune function, the effect of nutrition, and the relation between the many and varied stresses encountered by military personnel and their effect on health.

Synopsis Drug Actions by : Mutschler

The most highly acclaimed pharmacology and toxicology text/reference used in Europe is now available in English. This excellent translation of Mutschler's Arzneimittelwirkungen combines a clear, informative narrative with 255 figures, 261 diagrams, and 198 tables to appeal to both new students and experts in pharmacy, pharmacology, and therapeutics. Drug structure and activity relationships are emphasized as an important dimension that is sometimes lacking in other pharmacology texts. Drug Actions is organized into three major sections covering general drug action and dosing principles, specific drug therapeutics, and toxicology. The first section provides an integrated overview of basic principles in pharmacology with chapters addressing pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, drug side effects, drug interactions, chronopharmacology, rational and irrational drug combinations as well as drug developments and drug trials. The second section systematically describes specific drug actions with pharmacology, clinical indications, standard doses side effects, and contraindications described for each approved drug category. The third section addresses toxicology where specific drug toxicities are identified and treatment options for accidental and drug associated poisoning are presented. Topics covered include environmental, occupational, and nutritional exposure to toxins.
