Ellen Gould White (née Ellen Gould Harmon; November 26, 1827 - July 16, 1915) was an author and an American Christian pioneer. Along with other Sabbatarian Adventist leaders such as Joseph Bates and her husband James White, she formed what became known as the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The Smithsonian magazine named Ellen G. White among the "100 Most Significant Americans of All Time.

Ellen Gould White was a co-founder of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Published in 1851, this publication embodies a brief autobiographical sketch and visions given to Ellen White.

A foundational text in the Seventh Day Adventist church, The Great Controversy is a vision White had of the great battle between Christ and Satan throughout the ages of the early and modern church. Although the book is not held with as high esteem in Protestant circles, it still is able to outline a way of impactful theological thinking.

In this book Ellen G. White refers to 'Sanctification'. It consists of eleven articles, that were published independently in the year 1881 and published as a pamphlet a little later.
