Synopsis Chosen Capital by : Rebecca Kobrin

At which moments and in which ways did Jews play a central role in the development of American capitalism? Many popular writers address the intersection of Jews and capitalism, but few scholars, perhaps fearing this question’s anti-Semitic overtones, have pondered it openly. Chosen Capital represents the first historical collection devoted to this question in its analysis of the ways in which Jews in North America shaped and were shaped by America’s particular system of capitalism. Jews fundamentally molded aspects of the economy during the century when American capital was being redefined by industrialization, war, migration, and the emergence of the United States as a superpower. Surveying such diverse topics as Jews’ participation in the real estate industry, the liquor industry, and the scrap metal industry, as well as Jewish political groups and unions bent on reforming American capital, such as the American Labor Party and the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union, contributors to this volume provide a new prism through which to view the Jewish encounter with America. The volume also lays bare how American capitalism reshaped Judaism itself by encouraging the mass manufacturing and distribution of foods like matzah and the transformation of synagogue cantors into recording stars. These essays force us to rethink not only the role Jews played in American economic development but also how capitalism has shaped Jewish life and Judaism over the course of the twentieth century. Synopsis Journey’S Chosen by : B. K. Parent

At the great summer fair at the capital, a little less than a year ago, the Gylden Sirklene challengeSommerhjems ancient way for choosing rulerswas called, forcing Regent Cedric Klingflug to step down. The governing of the country was turned over to an interim ruling council. One year to the day the challenge was called, all nine pieces of the oppgave ringe must be brought to the capital. It is now the start of the summer fair season, but only seven of the pieces of the oppgave ringe have been safely delivered to the capital. With few scant weeks left before the great summer fair, the rules governing the Gylden Sirklene challenge need to be fulfilled. Time is running out for both those who support the Crown and those who support the former regent. All too soon, Nissa, Carz, and her fellow ring carriers are caught up in a race against time, desperate to find the final pieces of the oppgave ringe in order to initiate the challenge and return to the ancient way of choosing the rightful ruler of Sommerhjem.

Synopsis Supply Chain Strategy and Financial Metrics by : Bram DeSmet

Supply Chain Strategy and Financial Metrics is a step-by-step guide to balancing the triangle of service, cost and cash which is the essence of supply chain management. Supply chains have become increasingly strategy-driven, and this Supply Chain Triangle approach puts the supply chain at the heart of the strategy discussion instead of seeing it as a result. Supply Chain Strategy and Financial Metrics fully reflects the 'inventory' or 'working capital' angle and examines the optimisation of the supply chain and Return on Capital Employed. Including case studies of Barco, Casio and a selection of food retail companies, this book covers building a strategy-driven KPI dashboard, target setting and financial benchmarking. Regular examples and diagrams illustrate how different types of strategies lead to different trade-offs in the Supply Chain Triangle. This ground-breaking text links supply chain, strategy and finance through financial metrics, therefore creating value for the shareholder. Online supporting resources include worksheets covering basic financial concepts such as cash flow and working capital, with example data sets and guidelines/exercises to make it interactive.
