A surveying publication about Chinese armorial porcelain for the Dutch market is lacking up to now. The aim of this publication is a reference book written in English, containing a description of c. 500 Chinese services bearing coats of arms of Dutch families. About 200 services will be varieties.

And yet the officers and supercargoes of the Hon. East India Company took full advantage of their license to trade on their own account; it is just this attractive and innovative ware, chosen by them at their own capital risk, that is most collected today. Chinese armorial porcelain for Spain is the first book published on the subject of armorial porcelain made in China specifically for the Spanish market. It includes important new documentation and information unearthed after years of methodical research by the author. This publication examines and discusses seventy-three different Chinese export porcelain pieces or dinner services made for the Spanish market as well as provides interesting information on the historical, political and sociological world at the time including insights into the individuals that ordered these objects from China.

In response to the dominance of Latin as the language of intellectual debate in early modern Europe, regional centers started to develop a new emphasis on vernacular languages and forms of cultural expression. This book shows that the local acts as a mark of distinction in the early modern cultural context. Interdisciplinary in scope, essays examine vernacular strands in the visual arts, architecture and literature from the fourteenth to seventeenth centuries. In the first half of the 20th century Milwaukee collector Ethel Liebman acquired hundreds of exquisite Chinese export porcelains, which were presented to the Elvehjem (now Chazen) in the 1970s. Over a hundred of these wares are described and documented, including armorial and pseudo-armorial pieces, some porcelains decorated with indigenous Eastern designs, and others with Western motifs.
