This volume contains the proceedings of the Amitsur Centennial Symposium, held from November 1–4, 2021, virtually and at the Israel Institute for Advanced Studies (IIAS), The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Jerusalem, Israel. Shimshon Amitsur was a pioneer in several branches of algebra, the leading algebraist in Israel for several decades who contributed major theorems, inspiring results, useful observations, and enlightening tricks to many areas of the field. The fifteen papers included in the volume represent the broad impact of Amitsur's work on such areas as the theory of finite simple groups, algebraic groups, PI-algebras and growth of rings, quadratic forms and division algebras, torsors and Severi-Brauer surfaces, Hopf algebras and braces, invariants, automorphisms and derivations.

This proceedings volume, for the symposium in honor of Edward Teller's 100th anniversary, focuses on Teller's scientific legacy. This legacy includes some of the most fundamental insights into the quantum behaviors of molecules, nuclei, surfaces, solid state and spin systems and plasmas. Many of these are brand names from the canon of 20th-century physics and chemistry, such as Gamow-Teller transitions, the Jahn-Teller effect, Goldhaber-Teller resonances, the Lyddane-Sachs-Teller relation, the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller equation of state, and the MR2T2 algorithm. All of these have had a profound and continuing impact on science - as has Teller's work on level crossing, diamagnetism, and plasma and statistical physics. The legacies of these discoveries are discussed in this volume, as is Teller's role in applied science and education.

This book contains the proceedings of the Gregory Breit Centennial Symposium. The legacy of Breit to atomic, nuclear and particle physics is discussed vis-à-vis modern developments in these fields. Among other subjects, the present status of the Breit interaction in atomic physics and of the nucleon-nucleon interaction are reviewed. The second part of the book contains a more in-depth presentation of the status of modern nuclear physics, from relativistic heavy ion physics to nuclear structure physics and nuclear astrophysics. Paul Adrian Maurice Dirac (1902-84) is one of the icons of modern physics. His work provided the mathematical foundations of quantum mechanics. He also made key contributions to quantum field theory and quantum statistical mechanics. He is perhaps best known for formulating the Dirac equation, a relativistic wave equation which described the properties of the electron, and also predicted the existence of anti-matter. The Dirac Centennial Symposium held commemorated the contributions of Dirac to all areas of physics, and assessed their impact on frontier research. This invaluable book constitutes the proceedings of the symposium, containing articles by Leopold Halpern, Pierre Ramond, Frank Wilczek, Maurice Goldhaber, Jonathan Bagger, Joe Lykken, Roman Jackiw, Stanley Deser, Joe Polchinski, Andre Linde and others. This volume deals with many aspects of the physical and chemical limnology of the Salton Sea, California’s largest lake and a lake that may soon to be the object of a multi-billion dollar restoration project. Formed in 1905 by an accidental breaching of outtake structures on the Colorado River, and maintained since then by large and steady inflows of agricultural wastewaters, it has long served as an important habitat for fish and waterbirds and as a major recreational area for people. Highlly eutrophic and with a salinity that is steadily rising and now nearly 50 g/L, it is a lake in great trouble. Most fish species have disappeared, and large fish and bird dieoffs have been common in recent decades. Many of the papers in this volume represent studies undertaken with the aim of informing the re-engineering of this ecosystem so that its value to wildlife and man can be restored or enhanced.
