Synopsis Catalogue of the Exhibits in the Queensland Mining Court, Queensland International Exhibition, 1897, Vol. 6 (Classic Reprint) by : R. L. Jack

Excerpt from Catalogue of the Exhibits in the Queensland Mining Court, Queensland International Exhibition, 1897, Vol. 6 Tm: statement that the present collection was made during the ten weeks immediately preceding the Opening of the Exhibition might have served, had it been necessary, as an excuse for a poor show; it must be taken as the explanation of a fortnight's delay in the issue of the Catalogue; but it is to be hoped that the public will regard it rather as evidence of the astounding mineral wealth of Queensland. It may logically be argued that if as many months as there have been weeks had been devoted to the accumulation of exhibits, and every mining district had been represented, a still more imposing display might easily have been made. As it is, the generous response of the mining community to the appeal made by the Department of Mines has resulted, it may safely be said, in the production of a collection which speaks volumes for the future of the Colony. I have received advices that many contributions are on the way from distant fields, their earlier presence in Brisbane having been impossible owing to the shortness of the notice. The arrival of these, and of further information regarding the exhibits already to hand, will necessitate at least a second and revised issue of the Catalogue. Synopsis Colonial and Indian Exhibition, London, 1886 by : Colonial And Indian Exhibition

Excerpt from Colonial and Indian Exhibition, London, 1886: Catalogue of the Exhibits in the Queensland Court The Photographs are evidence of the varied character of life in the colony, as exemplified in the bush shelter of the early settler and the imposing residence of the successful colonist while the Exhibits from the schools are a proof that in the search for wealth the development of the intellectual faculties of the rising generation has received that full attention which its importance deserves, and that Queensland will compare favourably in this respect with any portion of Her Majesty's dominions. The Ethnological Collection affords an Interesting Opportunity of studying man in his wild state. The gradual disappearance of the aboriginal tribes before the march of civilisation renders it, year by year, more difficult to obtain specimens of their handiwork. Synopsis The Official Catalogue of the Exhibits, Vol. 1 by :

Excerpt from The Official Catalogue of the Exhibits, Vol. 1: With Introductory Notices of the Countries Exhibiting In comparing the cost Of public instruction in the several Australasian colonies for the year ending 3lst December, 1886, the most noteworthy point is the large amount paid by New South Wales as compared with other colonies. If we take Victoria, for example, it appears that although the average number of scholars under instruction in New South Wales was fewer by or nearly 15 per cent., than the number in Victoria, the cost of instructing them was more by or 21 per cent. The following table, from Mr, Hayter's Victorian Year Book, 1886 shows the average cost of instruction per scholar, distinguish ing the proportions defrayed by the State, and by parents or otherwise, in each colony.
