The collection consists of correspondence, photographs, financial papers, printed papers, personal papers, and drawings documenting the history of Carson Pirie Scott, with particular focus on the company's buildings and real estate. Also included are documention related to architect Louis Sullivan and the founders of Carson Pirie Scott.

Long recognized as a Chicago landmark, the Carson Pirie Scott Building also represents a milestone in the development of architecture. The last large commercial structure designed by Louis Sullivan, the Carson building reflected the culmination of the famed architect's career as a creator of tall steel buildings.
