Synopsis Essential Skills for Health Career Success by : Jacquelyn Rhine Marshall
Essential Skills for Health Career Success strengthens the basic academic skills--such as reading, writing, science, and math--that students need for a successful career in healthcare. Used for a stand-alone course or as a supplement, this text is ideal for students who need a basic skills boot camp and for students enrolled in bridge courses. In addition to basic skill development, the text provides an overview to the healthcare industry; critical safety and infection control procedures; and legal and ethical considerations. Students are also introduced to basic medical terminology and the body systems that they will study in more detailed A&P courses at a later date. As an added plus, chapters on study skills and employability skills increase students' likelihood for success in the classroom and in the workplace. Real-life scenarios form the basis of practice problems that enhance student math, writing, and reading skills. Self-assessment opportunities allow students to gauge their skill level to determine which skills need further practice. Companion and mobile websites provide a variety of interactive activities to supplement the text and allow students to study on the go.

Synopsis Educating Nurses by : Patricia Benner
Praise for Educating Nurses "This book represents a call to arms, a call for nursing educators and programs to step up in our preparation of nurses. This book will incite controversy, wonderful debate, and dialogue among nurses and others. It is a must-read for every nurse educator and for every nurse that yearns for nursing to acknowledge and reach for the real difference that nursing can make in safety and quality in health care." —Beverly Malone, chief executive officer, National League for Nursing "This book describes specific steps that will enable a new system to improve both nursing formation and patient care. It provides a timely and essential element to health care reform." —David C. Leach, former executive director, Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education "The ideas about caregiving developed here make a profoundly philosophical and intellectually innovative contribution to medicine as well as all healing professions, and to anyone concerned with ethics. This groundbreaking work is both paradigm-shifting and delightful to read." —Jodi Halpern, author, From Detached Concern to Empathy: Humanizing Medical Practice "This book is a landmark work in professional education! Synopsis So You Want To Be A Nurse? by : Robert L. Anders
This eBook originated from my experience as a nurse educator and academic administrator for a variety of nursing programs. I started my nursing career as a second lieutenant in the Army caring for those serving our country in the Vietnam War. My career has included working as a staff nurse, a charge nurse, a nurse manager, a chief nursing officer to a nurse educator progressing from instructor, professor emeritus to vice president of nursing. I want to share with you some thoughts and suggestions in how your journey as a nursing student may somehow be hopefully impacted by my "words of wisdom". Students have limited resources to assist them in understanding what to expect in their journey to become a nurse. This short eBook is designed to provide a general overview to aid students, their families and/or significant others in gaining a better understanding of nursing schools. I offer my thoughts to you for whatever assistance they may provide you. Chapter 1 discusses some of the considerations and options involved in the decision to become a nurse and if it is your calling. Chapter 2 discusses various issues and consideration as you get ready for nursing school. Information is provided to aid you in deciding which nursing program is right for you including information on regulatory issues and the licensing examination. Admission requirements, tuition and fees, and financial aid options are also discussed. Chapter 3 discusses what you are going to need once you start nursing school. Understanding the curriculum is described on Chapter 5. Chapter 6 is the heart of the eBook providing you detailed information and guidance in how to be successful in mastering the nursing content. In Chapter 7, clinical expectations and competencies are covered while in Chapter 8, program evaluation is discussed. Chapter 9 describes a variety of extra curriculum activities that are available to students.
