Synopsis Cabinet Pieces by : Gerhard Röbbig

The Meissen figures, groups, animals and birds of the first half of the eighteenth century constitute not only a unique chapter in European ceramics but also a multi-faceted portrait of a society marked by humour, tolerance, scientific curiosity, and interest in all fields of art. Amongst the most original and beautiful artistic creations of this period are the porcelain birds modelled by Johann Joachim Kndler. The present volume is the first comprehensive survey of more than one hundred porcelain birds by Johann Joachim Kndler (1706-1775). This prolific sculptor created the models for all of these figures during the twenty-year period from his entry into service at the manufactory in 1731 up until 1750. The vast majority of these rare and magnificently coloured masterpieces were inspired by the observation of live specimens and are still unparalleled today. A total of 115 bird figures are published here along with the latest research findings and a wealth of historical cross-references and background. In some cases, the provenance of the figures can be traced back to the original royal collections or to those of the Rothschilds, Ole Olsen, and others. Without exception, all the present pieces now form part of European private collections. The original German-language publication was the catalogue of the exhibition Kabinettstcke - Die Meiener Porzellanvgel von Johann Joachim Kndler 1706 -1775 (Munich, October 20 to November 18, 2006), in which the general public enjoyed an exceptional opportunity to see these masterpieces from private collections gathered together under one roof.

Synopsis The Cabinet-Maker's Guide to the Entire Construction of Cabinet-Work - Including Nemeering, Marqueterie, Buhl-Work, Mosaic, Inlaying, and the Working and Polishing of Ivory by : Richard Bitmead

Written to supply a want is a phrase now become so hackneyed, that it is only repeated here because no other words mould so well express the purpose of the writer-which is, to place before the trade a book of instruction on Cabinet-making by a London Cabinet-maker. From the fact of the London trade being divided and sub-divided into so many branches-wardrobe makers, pianoforte-case makers, photographic ap- paratus makers, dining-table makers, telegraphic- case makers, sideboard makers, glass-showcase makers, chiffonier makers, looking-glass-frame- makers, mathematical-case makers, dressing-case makers, toilet-table makers, chest-of-drawers makers, etc., etc.-and each one of these branches taking apprentices, it follows as a natural consequence that there are many workmen who are thoroughly efficient only in the branch in which they have been specially trained. It mill frequently happen, from slackness in a particular branch of trade, or from a other causea, that a workman is compelled to turn his hand to another branch, and he then finds that he must place himself under an obligation to others for instruction. By all such workmen this little book will be found of value, as well as by apprentices and country work- men unaccustomed to many of the branches of the trade treated of in these pages amateurs, also, who take delight in the art will find the book of great service and lastly, it is hoped it may prove useful as a work of reference to the trade in general. The information given is based on an experience of twenty-five years as a general Cabinet-maker, and can be relied upon. All necessary instructions for veneering and inlaying in fancy woods, for both flat and shaped surfaces, will be found here and the process of dyeing veneers throughout their entire thickness, so little known to the trade, is also fully treated of, as well as the working and staining of ivory, marqueterie, buhl-work, etc., and the con- struction of various kinds of dining-tables. Many valuable recipes are also given, and much information of a miscellaneous character, as will be seen from a glance through the following Contents.

Synopsis Cabinet Making for Beginners Handbook by : Stephen Fleming

"A kitchen without a cabinet is like a body without a soul." This is what a wise cabinetmaker uttered when I asked what cabinet making meant to him. I have been practicing all the aspects of woodworking like Joinery, Woodturning, and Furniture making along with Cabinet Making, and I must say this art provides the maximum chance of impacting the overall look of your kitchen or bathroom and eventually, your home. Cabinets, for me, are an extension of your personality and a great way to express yourself. When I first started woodcraft, I looked desperately for a go-to guide about the specific processes and exact tools required. The content I found online was total information overload and wasn't presented sequentially. The books were either focused on just a few processes or assumed that I already had the necessary information. Many of the books were also very dated. There are two ways of learning: learning from SMEs (Subject Matter Experts) with years of experience, and the other is to acquire from people who are just a few steps ahead of you in their journey. I fall into the latter group. I've spent five years on this hobby and am still learning from the experts. I still remember my initial doubts and the first tips that helped me. This book is for those who are still running their first lap (0-3 years) in wood-crafting and want to gain a holistic idea of the necessary processes and tools. I've included photographs of realistic beginner projects, and I'll explain the processes and standard operating procedures associated with them. Below are the topics you would find inside: · Introduction to Cabinet Making · Cabinet Types, Doors, and Drawers · Tools used and best practices · Process and Techniques · 10 Beginner Projects · Recap and Safety Tips · Conclusion and Free Online Resources In the last chapter, I've provided a link to free online resources for planning your next projects. Cheers, and let's start the exciting journey!
