Thomas Burgess Sr. (ca. 1603-1685) emigrated from England, ca. 1630 arrived at Salem, and lived for a time at Lynn, Massachusetts. He settled at Sandwich, Massachusetts, in 1637. He was the father of at least five children. Descendants listed lived in Massachusetts, Maine, New York, Ohio, Iowa, California and elsewhere. Some descendants immigrated to Nova Scotia and elsewhere in Canada.

Thomas Burgess was born in about 1603 in England. He married Dorothy Waynes in about 1628 in Tanfield, Yorkshire, England. They had five children. They emigrated in about 1630 and settled in Massachusetts. Thomas died in 1685 in Sandwich, Massachusetts. Descendants and relatives lived in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Maine and elsewhere.

Seth Burgess (1736-1795), a direct descendant of Thomas and Dorothy Burgess, was born at Dartmouth, Massachusetts, and married Abigail Howe in 1757. They immigrated in 1760 to Kings County, Nova Scotia. Descendants lived in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and elsewhere in Canada. Some descendants immigrated to New England, New York and elsewhere in the United States.

The family moves to Henrico County, Virginia; then migrating south into Wake County North Carolina, staying in South Carolina for a short time; then settling in Bulloch County, Georgia for several generations. The Cannon family moved further down in the Brooks County, Thomas County, Colquitt Co. Georgia area where they have remained for many more generations. Some generations of the Cannon family moved into Hamilton County, Florida.
