Synopsis Break Bulk and Cargo Management by : J. Mark Rowbotham
This book covers the subjects of break bulk cargo, general cargo and project cargo, and how these cargoes are shipped. It deals with the cargoes themselves, the vessels used for their carriage, and how the carriage is managed using the process of vessel chartering. Alongside these, it also covers offshore vessel management and how offshore supply vessels are used to carry cargoes to offshore oil and gas installations. Break bulk cargo covers a wide variety of cargoes, from project cargo to more varied cargoes carried on an ad hoc basis, often between ports that are not equipped for container traffic. It also covers the carriage of specific cargoes that cannot fit inside or are unsuitable for containers. This includes the carriage of cargoes for major projects, and cargoes for the offshore sector, which is an area covered in a specific section in the book concerning the use of offshore supply vessels. To date, only minor elements of shipping books cover this kind of trade, hence the need for a new book that specifically covers this subject. The focus of this book is providing expert insights and detailed explanations of the practical issues related to all aspects of break bulk and general cargo management. The book is written for legal practitioners, shipping managers, managers of project cargo, oil and gas companies, shipping professionals, charterers, shipbrokers, shippers and anybody else involved in ad hoc vessel chartering for the carriage of break bulk, general and project cargoes. It will also serve as a valuable resource for students of shipping.

Synopsis Bulk Cargo by : Peter Grunau
The book is a guide for loading, unloading and stowage of solid bulk cargoes. It describes the common practices preparing the vessel for loading and unloading of bulk cargoes and ́distribution of the cargo. The practice of preparing a loading/unloading plan including de-ballasting and ballasting operation is, as well as the description of the draught survey, part of the book. Finally the common practice for loading grain cargoes, the calculation of the residual area and the mandatory requirements if loading for the US or in ports of the US, is described. Additional to the loading/unloading requirements a detailed description how to prepare a voyage plan including risk assessment if transporting bulk cargoes is included. The book should be an assistance for the ship command for a better and easier understanding of carrying bulk cargoes.

Synopsis Cargo Access Equipment for Merchant Ships by : Ian Lyon Buxton
As President of International MacGregor I am deeply indebted to the authors of this excellent book for the very considerable amount of work and scholarship it contains. It is the first authoritative work on cargo access equipment to be pubbshed and I am sure that it will be greatly welcomed by the Marine Industries. You will see from the authors' preface that the book was commissioned by the Henri Kummerman Foundation which was established in 1976 to assist and promote internationally research and development in the field of marine transportation and cargo handling. The Foundation has already made a number of grants to universities and to students but this book is its first major contribution to the furthering of education in the Marine Industries. For me, it is a rewarding fruition of a long involvement in maritime affairs. However, much requires to be done in the future and the Foundation can only succeed if it is encouraged and assisted by people who are forward thinking. I should be pleased therefore to hear from any readers of this book if they feel that they can help or be helped within the aims and objectives of the Foundation. 28 Chemin du Pommier, HENRI KUMMERMAN 1218 Geneva, Switzerland.
